Sep 11th 2008 6:06PM (Joystiq Playstation)Rumor: Rock Band 2 to feature GNR Chinese Democracy track
Jul 14th 2008 6:41AM (Joystiq)I for one won't be investing in Rock Band itself anymore, thanks to Harmonix making cheap crappy instruments that can't even hold up to 3 weeks of play. I've gone through 3 guitars in 3 weeks, and my drum pedal is dangerously close to snapping. Sure, I could go out and mod it... but I SHOULDNT HAVE TO.
Harmonix is losing out by not having RedOctane making their instruments anymore. It's almost a lose-lose situation, GH stays with Activision but gets thrown to Neversoft to pimp out, and Rock Band goes to the devil - EA/MTV Games.
Personally, at the damn price of the hardware (and honestly, the impressive list of features in GH: World Tour), I think I might be done supporting Harmonix. Shame too... I have so many fond memories of Amplitude, Frequency, and all the original GH games. Damn shame indeed.
Konami reveals Rock Revolution
May 15th 2008 8:18PM (Joystiq Nintendo)Not to mention, Guitar Hero really takes nothing from amplitude or frequency, so I don't get that correlation (although, Amplitude and Frequence ARE Harmonix's most unique/original rhythm games, and their best imo). I love Guitar Hero, but all Harmonix did with that, was take Guitar Freaks, add a button and whammy bar, and add in music that would have more mainstream appeal to an American and European audience. The underlying mechanics of the game tho, already done by Konami.
Audiosurf not coming to XBLA [update]
Apr 23rd 2008 12:34PM (Joystiq)It may APPEAR to look like a racing game, but it is far from it. It's more of a puzzle game wrapped up to look like something out of an F-Zero stage... but there is a big difference in the gameplay, you are just avoiding a few cars and hitting the gas/brakes, you are constantly whipping from lanes to lanes to collect SPECIFIC Blocks... if you are playing Audiosurf as a racing game, you aren't going to score very high, and I think you'll find that you don't "race" anyone - you are going to finish when the song finishes...
Audiosurf not coming to XBLA [update]
Apr 23rd 2008 12:29PM (Joystiq)I don't think anyone is going to argue with something as retarded as "Try racing with the mouse!"
You are kind of stretching it there. But it's funny how defensive you feel you need to be about it. if you prefer the gamepad for it, more power to you! Using a mouse does not affect directions either, unless you suffer from some kind of mental retardation.
The difference between the mouse and the gamepad, is that the mouse speed and range of movement, is totally up to you.
With the gamepad, what I am saying is that you can NOT immediately move the analog stick to exactly the point where you want the ship to go.
On the easier difficulties, and with rock (and slow to medium speed songs), you probably wouldn't even notice much difference, as the blocks will have enough spacing, and less color changes.
And I have yet to be moving my mouse up and down, instead of left to right, and have my ship not respond...lol.
Audiosurf not coming to XBLA [update]
Apr 23rd 2008 12:13PM (Joystiq)But understand, no one is knocking the 360, or knocking Xbox... I think achievements are cool, I have very few problems with the Live setup on the 360. And I also very much enjoy gaming on the Wii with the wife and friends. No PS3 yet, but it will come eventually, when the price is right, and the games are there to match.
I'll play a good game on any system, as long as it plays to that system's strengths. And I believe that Audiosurf plays to the PC's strengths more than a console/gamepad, but hey... I would love to be proven wrong, because I love Audiosurf, and would love to see more rhythm games that let you use your own music, instead of sucking your wallet dry for questionable DLC songpacks.
Age of Conan's retail, monthly subscription prices revealed
Apr 23rd 2008 12:05PM (Joystiq)That being said, for those people who claim it is STUPID to pay to keep playing a game, how many rpg's have you played, that keep providing you with additional content on a regular basis? GM's online while you are playing the game, to help with issues you may experience, and to help drive in-game events?
Now, I will be the FIRST to say that most companies want to jump on the MMO Bandwagon WITHOUT providing all of that, which is why I'm out of the MMORPG market for the moment. Even to this day developers still have a hard time keeping the content coming fast enough, and diverse enough to maintain a successful fanbase.
And honestly, WoW is a fluke. WoW does NOTHING different than any other MMORPG that came LONG before it, and nothing different from what has come since. WoW is huge because it's Blizzard, and over half of their subscription numbers come from the asian market, who worship Warcraft and Starcraft (Blizzard won't make a Starcraft MMO unless/until WoW is completely dead, because they KNOW the Asian market would bury WoW to jump onto that).
