3DS Power Pak + review: a battery of tests

Mar 31st 2011 7:50PM (Joystiq)
@Red Runner you realize this battery isn't "better" it just has higher capacity right? it's quite simple, a battery with larger capacity requires more space. the only reason the nyko one provides more battery life is because it is larger.

If you actually examine the standard 3DS battery, I'm sure you'll find the size to capacity ratio is smaller than the nyko battery, in other words, nintendo's battery is "better" (more capacity/volume)... from the looks of it, with a battery of that size, you should be able to get at least 3x the capacity of the standard 3DS battery.

iPhone 3GS totally capable of 1080p video playback

Aug 20th 2009 10:04PM (Engadget)
right, the end result is different because you can't actually see the quality of the 1080p video on an iphone screen. but it doesn't change the fact that the iphone is capable of 1080p playback... which is what this article is focusing on. if it had a more capable dock that supports HDMI, and if the GPU supports HD resolutions, you would have HD video playback. we already know the processor is more than able to provide the decoding power...

iPhone 3GS totally capable of 1080p video playback

wow... do you naysayers know what you're talking about?

obviously the lot of you are just ignorant.

here's the deal. the GI Joe clip is 1080p. it plays back smoothly, meaning the iphone can handle 1080p video. so his title is correct.

just because the display isn't 1920x1080, doesn't mean the iphone isn't DECODING the 1080p video. it just can't display it at its full resolution. but the processor is actually handling the complete decoding of the video... and smoothly. With a new dock connector that supports HDMI and HD resolutions, maybe we'll be seeing an "iphone HD" or "ipod touch HD" very soon.

The next video shows a stuttering 720p video at 20Mbps. The Zune HD can only handle videos up to 14Mbps, every device has its limitations, and if this feature is actually released, i'm sure apple would tell people the maximum bitrate it could handle.

The last video most likely used an audio codec that the iphone doesn't support, therefore causing the audio driver to crash. This is not too surprising given the number of audio codecs that exist today.

last but not least, there are devices with specs similar to the specs of the iphone 3gs that can handle HD video playback. the archos 5 also uses the arm cortex a8 processor clocked at 600MHz and it officially supports 720p videos up to 10Mbps. so its not a stretch to say that the iphone 3gs can play 1080p videos at 10Mbps.

Mgestyk Fusion: the Force is 6-degrees strong with this one

why does every video related to the beating the wiimote have to say "no sensor bar." if they knew what the sensor bar actually did, there would be no need to put that statement in. sony also said "no sensor bar" when the sixaxis was announced, but do you see a sixaxis/ds3 with a pointer? no... and in this video... yeah, no sensor bar, but you have a camera. what's more expensive, 2 IR LEDs or a camera? btw, motionplus looks so much more responsive in videos than this...

Nintendo MotionPlus hands-on: blah.

go read the impressions on other sites. they all say this is what the Wii remote should have been when it first came out. don't listen to this engadget impression. i guarantee that there is no way the original wii remote could detect the subtle movements that are being detected in wii sports resort.

just watch IGNs sword-play video with the guy in the video. the response is nearly instantaneous, and it's ACCURATE. no more waggle, you actually have to do the movements. no more shake wiimote for a canned animation, that won't work anymore. This is what most of us dreamed about when the remote was announced, and it's finally here. i'm excited.

Rumor: Motus Games' Darwin is Xbox 360's motion controller

ok... so the wiimote needs an IR bar because it has the pointing capabilities... this doesn't, it looks like a bar controller with an accelerometer inside it... not very innovative in my book.

Philips' new 'Xenium 800' touchscreen phone leaks out

how is this ripping off sony's XMB again? or any other interface for that matter.... i mean, all we see is a bunch of icons on the home screen... wouldn't that be ripping off every palm device ever created?

Video: Lenovo's Ideapad U8 interface scrolls like butter, looks like candy

if you have your own sim card, it can support phone functionality. then they talk about about what kinds of connections it has. she says it has 3G technology built in. They talk about TD (?) maybe some type of network in China. computing is primary focus, phone takes secondary. It runs linux... something about it not optimized yet and that it will run better once they do that. 512 MB of RAM and it has a 4/6/10GB SSD drive for storage.

LGC07: Nintendo booth tour reminds us we're not the target audience anymore

Aug 27th 2007 7:48PM (Joystiq)
Wow... some of you are really idiots. let's count the number of nintendo's "hardcore" games relative to it's "casual" games.

"Hardcore"
Zelda TP
ExciteTruck (yes, it isn't part of audience expansion)
Super Paper Mario
Mario Party 8 (again, not part of audience expansion)
WarioWare (see excitetruck/mario party)
Mario Strikers Charged
Pokemon Battle Revolution (even though it sucks..)
Metroid Prime 3
Endless Ocean (arguable... though everblue did show up on PS2)
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Battalion Wars II
Donkey Kong Barrel Blast
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Mario Kart Wii (2008)
Disaster (2008)

"Casual"
WiiSports
WiiPlay
Big Brain Academy
WiiFit (2008)

that's a 4:1 ratio of "hardcore" to "casual" games. happy people? what i think you guys have your panties in a bunch about, is that they give media coverage to the casual games because that's how they aim to expand the audience.

Today's most first-person-waggle video: Metroid Prime 3

Aug 17th 2007 2:02AM (Joystiq)
what are you guys talking about? metroid prime was one of the best looking games of last-gen. seriously, retro is a beast at extracting the power of hardware. if you have NOT played metroid prime on a nice TV, it's hard to tell. I watched the videos, but it wasn't until i actually played the game that I realized how beautiful the game is. Everything is alive, there's always something moving around. This videos don't show the atmosphere at all, they're mostly trying to show the game mechanics.
