Female at E3: a look back

May 14th 2006 5:26AM (Joystiq)
elle's already covered most of this, but BklynKid, #6, you said: "Com'on, this is so dead. Guys play games in bigger numbers and until that changes, advertising will reflect that."

You could argue the opposite and say that until game advertising appeals to women, then women won't start playing games.

I don't think 15% is a high enough statistic though. It's been estimated that around 45% of people playing games are women. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/sci_nat/05/state_of_play/html/1.stm

While this survey only covers the UK I've seen similar statistics for the US.

Free expression isn't always a good thing

Good post Jennie.

I have to say, I'm surprised at the number of people who disagree. Does showing a swastika in a game rated 'E for everyone' reflect badly on video games? I would agree with Jennie and say yes, it does.

I don't think that means anyone has to moderate images on Mario Kart, but I do think it means that some people will be offended.

Are these people in the wrong for being offended? That's not really for me to say, but excluding people from video games is something that I, and I'm sure Nintendo, would like to avoid.
