I interviewed some young US soldiers returning from Fallujah. From what they told me, it seems like a massacre, a war crime was perpetrated in that city.
The ROE early on the first day were being completely disregarded by the end of the day, when the standing order was effectively - "destroy any building that shows movement". One commander told his troops that the Iraqis were "satan worshippers" and "responsible for 911".
Many, many civilians could not or would not move out of their homes (and go where?) so the civilian casualties were very high, but were never counted.
Chemical weapons like white phospherous AND a napalm like substance were used. Fallujah was a shameful episode in a very dirty war. Konami intend to Profit from it.
I think the setting of this and other "middle east" games are really off putting. I love games. I love shooting my friends in games. But it sticks in my throat when the entertainment you are having is based on a REAL war that real people I KNOW are DYING in RIGHT NOW.
Whats wrong with a bit of creativity here? GHOST recon was set slightly in the future, the rogue spear games always invented scenarios, set in cool locations. Crysis will be on a tropical island. Why cant the mainstream FPS games have invented scenarios - why always actual conflicts?
Ask an iraq vet what he thinks about boys playing at "second tour of Bagdhad". I think its a BAD idea .
"Not to demean the game, but it's not exactly wildy popular, compared to just about every other MMO" The award was for BEST MMORP, not most popular. I havent played any other MMORPG's for an extended period as I am totally not into that Tolkien shite - so I have no idea if its the best of the bunch, but I can tell you the subscriptions are increasing exponentially. I gather what the other MMORPG's suffer from is that they are mainly populated with ranting teenagers, whereas EVE is mainly 20 - 30 somethings. Different crowd, different pace, different interests. Since MMORPG's are more about the player interaction than the game itself the age difference with EVE means most of the posters wont understand the attraction eve has. Still, everyone should experience a fleet battle once in their lives.
Whats FTP? But seriously, theres long been a need for a drag'n'drop desktop web creator that hides all that programming bollocks. Ive been a designer for 10 years and I wont touch website design (professionaly) until there is software that "just works" without having to go and learn some alien coding language. For me its like trying to design by writing postscript code. Iweb is not the app im looking yet for but its a step forward.
Colbert should watch BBC's "The Day Today" or "Brass Eye" on how to do news/current affairs parody. His program is funny but doesnt quite hit the nail right between the eyes on its head that the Man Morris has shone the tiny red spot of his laser-sighted sniper rifle of truth at.... As he would possibly say.
Have a look for them on amazon, funny stuff indeed. Escepially the paedophile episode of Brass eye and the "WAR!!" episode of the day today.
