An all new episode of Alan Wake's Night Springs: 'What's in a Name'

Mar 28th 2012 5:29PM (Joystiq)
@Electrium The ones that made it in game were brilliant. The first 2 of these 3 new episodes have just seemed... contrived.

I guess it's why they didn't make it in the game. I hope the third one is good!

@RichardMitchell I see. Well, as Korbie said then, I'm glad they cut it. It just doesn't have the right "feel".

I suspect this isn't legit. It's definitely not as good as the originals...

Playdead boss says retail model is 'broken,' awaits digital revolution

If we go digital, installs are irrelevant...

Also, I think it's a myth that there are people that "like to hold a disk in their hands". I know way more people that "Like to not get off their arse even to switch a disk" and even more that "like not having games ruined because they left it sitting on the table and the cat used it as a toy and now I have to spend another 60 bucks if I want to play again"

Microsoft announces game invite tool for XBL, dubbed 'Beacons'

Jun 6th 2011 5:39PM (Joystiq)
My humble guess is that it works like this:

I set beacons for Black Ops, Clash of Heroes and Need for Speed. It immediately "publishes" all these beacons (might include facebook sharing, tweeting, dashboard, etc). Then, I'm watching Netflix, and even though I have notifications disabled during video, one of my friends launches Clash of Heroes and I get a notification. Also, when my friend launches CoH he immediately gets a notification that I have an active beacon set.

Further polishing could involve little indicators as a friend scrolls through his games list. Say he scrolls past Black Ops, he might see a tiny version of my avatar overlayed as well as any other friends with beacons for that game. (Okay, this feature is unlikely but would be very cool).

In short, my thoughts are:
-Multiple Beacons
-Two way notifications
-Seamless, visual indicators
-List of "I want to play this" (don't send me invites for Barbie: Unleashed).
-Social integration

Here's what the 'new' New Xbox Experience looks like

You can view the rating from the list of games without clicking it and going back over and over again? HAVE I DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN? What's that you say? That is total common sense and should have happened a long time ago but I should still be happy they implemented it anyway? Works for me!

Rumor: Alan Wake's Night Springs coming to XBLA

May 20th 2011 12:36PM (Joystiq)
I just noticed last night when you view your statistics now (since the last DLC, I suppose) that there is a new stat for "Night Springs Games Found" in adition to "Television Shows", "Radio Shows", etc...

I have 0 of 5 or 6 (can't remember).

Is this related?
