Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos explains what happened to Rock Band Japan

They can't compete with karaoke. it's more comfortable, louder, cheaper, and you can have all the drinks you want served to your room.

New PS3 Terms of Service aim to prevent class-action lawsuits, are part of mandatory PSN update

I'm getting a gut feeling that something like this will not stand up in court if the negligence on Sony is serious enough to go to court.

It's like saying "you're not allowed to demand your rights if we screw up".

Game Boyardee asks: Why don't video game characters pee?

Sep 14th 2011 5:56PM (Joystiq)
I remember characters on "the Sims" would pee, but I only played the first version, though. As well as one particular soldier on Metal Gear Solid II. He peed over the edge of the building.

Nintendo shares drop 5 percent following TGS showcase

@Nergy

That's exactly my point: the masses that make use of portable devices already have a phone/mini-computer to communicate, or have a DS for the simplicity of quick pick-up-and-play.

The 3DS, at this point, doesn't do either. The games are great--don't get me wrong--but they are bigger and brighter and perhaps more sophisticated than what is needed by a purely mobile consumer base.

Nintendo shares drop 5 percent following TGS showcase

It's not the games, it's the tech. The 3ds needs a phone and a robust online framework.

without it, it is just the same old DS.

Star Wars: The Old Republic supply artificially limited at launch

hmmm....it's almost like charging $$$ for a beta release. working out the kinks before a full blown release.

It sucks that EA can't get their programming right from the start. They used to be so much more adept before. IMO, this is just another blatant money grab like NBA Jam.

Report: Japanese retailers backing away from Xbox 360

Aug 17th 2011 7:39PM (Joystiq)
@K3ViNPwNz

Yes, it's a failure. Or, at least, it's a failure compared to Sony and Nintendo.

At most video games stores in Japan, Xbox 360 stuff is hidden at the back, alongside used GBA games and the "english games" section.

at the larger stores, it's usually on the upper floors (Nintendo and Sony dominate the main floor), again, alongside the used GBA, NES, SNES stuff.

At the average toy store, or department store, it is non-existent.

From what I know and saw in the 3 years I lived in Japan, only the expats had Xboxes. I didn't know any Japanese that had one--that didn't have any connection with north america, whether as friends or having lived there. And, I'm sure, when the international community bolted after the tsunami it was time to get rid of the Xboxes too.

I wonder if now there will be a surge of "discount games" making it into NPD's top 20 every month....

instead of the cards, why don't they just discount the retail price of the game by 20%?
