Sep 13th 2011 6:25PM (Joystiq)That's exactly my point: the masses that make use of portable devices already have a phone/mini-computer to communicate, or have a DS for the simplicity of quick pick-up-and-play.
The 3DS, at this point, doesn't do either. The games are great--don't get me wrong--but they are bigger and brighter and perhaps more sophisticated than what is needed by a purely mobile consumer base.

Report: Japanese retailers backing away from Xbox 360
Aug 17th 2011 7:39PM (Joystiq)Yes, it's a failure. Or, at least, it's a failure compared to Sony and Nintendo.
At most video games stores in Japan, Xbox 360 stuff is hidden at the back, alongside used GBA games and the "english games" section.
at the larger stores, it's usually on the upper floors (Nintendo and Sony dominate the main floor), again, alongside the used GBA, NES, SNES stuff.
At the average toy store, or department store, it is non-existent.
From what I know and saw in the 3 years I lived in Japan, only the expats had Xboxes. I didn't know any Japanese that had one--that didn't have any connection with north america, whether as friends or having lived there. And, I'm sure, when the international community bolted after the tsunami it was time to get rid of the Xboxes too.
