A lot of pain now or nearly an infinite amount later. Take the bad medicine now by cutting government programs, reducing benefits, and raising taxes (slight delay of a year or two on this last one). Meanwhile, implement a national sales tax in lieu of income tax and get rid of the corporate income tax (both done or neither on this one). Businesses hopefully have mostly gotten their houses in order or at least learned their lessons by now and would get a boost very quickly. With business finances in order and the government's headed there as well, the country just might stay solvent if not down right prosperous. oh, and, pick me for windows 7.

I'm not sure on how to fix it, but I believe we should be able to cross several things off the list of possibilities. Those to be crossed off would be pretty much anything that's been tried for the last 12 months.
