It seems as though it can-- and Apple can't patent multi-touch in general, but they have patented all sorts of gestures relating to specific functions.

I hate to rain on Microsoft's parade... but Apple has the patent on multi-touch. It'll be interesting to see how this resolves itself.

I had a decent experience with Nintendo's customer service. Both hinges broke off my DS, and they replaced it with a refurbished one. The unit is in okay condition-- the screen had some distortion, discolouration in some parts-- which was disappointing. The biggest disappointment was that despite my attempts to keep those hinges safe-- they've already started to crack on the new unit.

I have a White DS Lite-- and both hinges have broke off, leaving the screen very flimsy.

I haven't tried to send it back because I can't find the receipt, and I'm also afraid of having to pay $75 to get that fixed.

Professors banning in-class laptop use

In many cases just going to the class is a big waste of time. If someone wants to do a little multi-tasking-- let them. Some professors are just insecure, often just regurgitating what is in the text book they prescribed. So I say bring the laptop and tell the professor to kiss your ass when they approach you with their policy—The whole situation bubbles down to harassment and students should be complaining to the profs superiors.
