This seems to happen every time there is an update, or close to the holiday season. Not that I'm whining too much, I've been mostly offline with Fallout 3 and Silent Hill: Homecoming anyhow.
You guys think frequent disconnects for $50 a year is bad? Over the weekend, on World of Warcraft, there were 1000+ people queues, with a wait time of over an hours, to even log in. And us WoW freaks pay $15 a month.
@naxe: QUOTE: "Just be thankful that we have not two but three companies competing for our money. Keeping eachother in check, Making them update their systems with new features that the FANS want."
Exactly, dude. We benefit from this competing as well. I couldn't even fathom how much MS and Sony must be losing every time they make a price cut. But, price cuts are awesome for the consumers.
Most of my customers see a Bluray player for $299, then see the PS3 for only $100 more. Definately helps my store out when they spend the extra hundred bucks for that PS3.
The PS3, in my opinion, is somewhat of an enigma. It went from not selling much to actually selling out as much as the Wii does now. (My store can't keep Wiis on the shelf, and the PS3s sell out fast too).
I have the luxury of owning all 3 systems, and see each as such:
The Wii is great when my mother comes to visit, and I need a game for a person that doesn't usually play games.
The Xbox 360 is my go-to machine for kick ass games, and the achievement system is like electronic crack.
The PS3 is the best experience out there for high definition movies.
Of the 3 systems I have:
8 disc based games for the Wii, and 10 downloaded titles.
40 disc based games (30 Xbox 360 and 10 Xbox) for the Xbox 360, and 48 downloaded titles.
1 disc based game for the PS3, 6 downloaded titles, 4 Bluray movies, and a DVD library of over 500 movies.
I think the reason the PS3 is doing great now, is that people are starting to bercome addicted to Bluray movies. (MGS4 helped as well, it's the one disc-based game I have for it.) I see Little Big Planet helping, and the fact that Bluray movies are coming down in price as well. I don't really see my PS3 as a gaming machine, but more as a Bluray player with the perk of gaming throw into the mix. That, and a better way of browsing the net from my couch.
But, fanboyism aside (not that I suffer from it, seeing as I'm a fan of all 3 systems): I would have to say that the Xbox 360 has the best to offer in terms of gaming, the PS3 in terms of movies/ high def, and the Wii in terms of social interaction between gamers and non-gamers.
I do sometimes wish that Sony could do more PS3 exclusive games that push the power of the PS3, like MGS4 (Yesm I know MGS4 is possibly coming to the 360, but it was exclusive when it was being developed. That's what I'm getting at...)did. That way, the developers aren't sacrificing quality to easily port the thing to other systems.
I am really looking forward to Quantic Dream's (Omikron, Indigo Prophecy) upcoming title, Heavy Rain. The game is so up there on a graphics level, that the PS3 is the only system getting it. (So far).
I don't get why this game is so popular. To me it just seems like a Mario clone with elements of Prince of Persia thrown in. I may have bought it for 400 or mayber even 800 points, but 1200? You gotta be joking.
That press conference was full of fail. I actually half-expected Reggie to save the day at the end with the announcement of an actual online gaming lobby (wasn't Nintendo supposedly working with Gamespy on one?) or at least a Zelda announcement. But, NO... that didn't happen.
Instead we get more crapware. We've got a 1080 snowboarding rehash with a dude that looks WAY too much like carrot-top, we've got another Animal Crossing rehash, a weak DS port of GTA, and a Rock Band wannabe with Nintendo tunes. I call shennanigans! They could of at least announced another Mario "insert shameless suffix here" game. That was so bad, I could actually taste the salty water of corporate fail in my mouth. Nintendo has officially turned into carnival barkers for the casual gaming market.
I'm going to need to see my grandmother naked to undo the mental scarring Nintendo's E3 show has done to my mind...

3. The consoles already have parental controls built in.
4. If your kid is so much of a shit that you need this device, your parenting sucks.
5. That is all, carry on.
