Aussie PS3 boss: Don't compare systems ... but if you do, PS3 is better

Mar 1st 2007 9:31PM (Joystiq)
His accidental implication that the PS3 is not a games console really cracks me up.

Foot-in-mouth disease must be contagious, as it seems to be spreading across all of Sony's upper management. ;)

Is the 20GB PS3 already on its way out?

Feb 28th 2007 9:29PM (Joystiq)
@ OGHowie

I feel the same way about my 360. The silver cover for the DVD tray really bothers me. Funny how both companies made the premium consoles seem tackier than the base consoles.

Europe's 'This is living' PS3 ad

This ad is awful. Comparing a processor to a girl stacking cups is like comparing the internet to a series of tubes.

E3's PS3 Motor Storm presentation vs. reality

Jan 12th 2007 11:47PM (Joystiq)
Sony lies again. It'd be easier for me to supress my 360 fanboyism if Sony wasn't so blatantly unethical in their marketing tactics. Granted, every company that big exaggerates and lies, but I feel like it's gotten to the point where it's hard to believe a single statement Sony makes.

Even so, Motor Storm's a damn good looking game. If it was on 360 I'd definitely buy it, as I much prefer the offroad racers. Unfortunately I doubt any similar 360 game will receive nearly as much of a development budget. Does anyone know if any offroad racers are currently planned or in development for the 360?

Microsoft execs tag-team PS3's online service

Jan 10th 2007 6:59PM (Joystiq)
This is disappointing. One of the reasons I'm against the PS3 is the arrogance of Sony's public statements, but this is genuine smack talk and arrogance on Microsoft's part. For shame, Moore and Satchell.

PS3, Xbox 360 account for 80% of Blu-ray, HD-DVD players

Jan 8th 2007 2:13PM (Joystiq)
360 owners shouldn't feel like pawns because they decided to pick up the HD-DVD addon on their own, just like a lot of people picked up the PS3 primarily as a blu-ray player. The only people who got "pawned" are those who bought a PS3 for games and don't care about HD movies. ;)

Gears of War update: more talk, less tagging

Jan 8th 2007 11:41AM (Joystiq)
It's important that they removed the host name as a temporary measure, because the other team was always at a disadvantage in not knowing each other.

I prefer playing with friends myself, but it's simply unfair to others when you play ranked matches with your buddies, given the current system.

With that said, I'll definitely agree that the one feature GoW needs more than any other is a party system a la Halo. Epic is aware of this, but IIRC Mark Rein has stated in their forums that it would take tons of work at this point. This doesn't mean it won't happen, as Epic is big on supporting their games post-release, but it does mean that if it does happen it will take a while. Meanwhile, I'm glad they leveled the playing field for ranked matches; now I'm tempted to go back online and try getting some achievements.

Also, HELL YEAH on the big penalty for quitting a match early. Halo needed this badly.

Meet Ana, the Xbox 360 hardware scaler

#23, Neil: You are mistaken. When asked if GoW could work on the PS3:

“256 MB of RAM makes a huge difference. There is no way we could ever do Gears of War on 256, we had trouble fitting everything on 512MB. We pushed the 360 to the limits.” - Epic

The above quote was even blogged by Joystiq.

More graphics you won't be seeing in-game [update 1]

Jan 4th 2007 10:11PM (Joystiq)
Yo, Blake, just wanted to say I was initially confused by your wording of this sentence:

"But given the screenshots intended marketing use not to mention their deceptive and pre-rendered past..."

I originally took this as being a dig at Operation Burnout, and not at the entire medium of game screenshots. It took me a moment (and some link-surfing) to realize you meant that screenshots in general, and not Operation Burnout, are untrustworthy. You might consider rewording that sentence.

Gears of War wins another "game of the year" award

Dec 29th 2006 1:33PM (Joystiq)
"i also tend to belive that EPIC and M$ didnt want to make GoW longer, because they wouldve had to use more than one disc. That right there wouldve been the first weakness in which sony could bask in glory with the 50gb blu ray :)"

Your blatant fanboyism is showing here. The game is short because they ran out of development time; you can tell because one of the big monsters in the game is never fought, while you fight a Berserker twice. They didn't have time to put in the other boss, so they just subbed a berserker.

DVD's are extremely, extremely cheap to produce, ESPECIALLY compared to Blu-ray discs. There is no reason that, if they had the content for the game, they would hesitate to split the game across a couple DVD's. The game they took so many ideas from, RE4, did just that, and nobody complained about it.

You can complain about how short you think the game is all you want, but to say it's short because they didn't put it on Blu-ray is nothing short of idiotic.
