Bob's Ultimatum

Jan 2nd 2009 11:08AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
The dude should make this an Iphone app. At least he would make some money off it even if the game was bad. If he just wanted people to play it he would release it as homebrew!

Gaming to Go: Electroplankton

This game was going for around $100 or so when I got it used on craigslist for $10, since then the price has gone down to around $70 or so. A little too steep for a visual art experiment. But this is definately a peice of worthwhile art for designers and musicians alike.

DS Daily: Revisiting old friends

Etrian Odessey has me burnt out at level 20. The game is not as hard as people make it out to be. Its just that its a total grinder. The Game should have had more to it. Its tha games a little too minimalist. I would say a game like the first Bards Tale had way more going on with it than Etrian Odessey. Etrian Odessey was like a step behind retro.

Are games with puzzles a dying breed?

Puzzle Quest was aight... I thought it was over rated...I feel we have too many puzzle games especially on the ds. And not enough quality adventure titles.
IMHO

Astley DS-10 just wants to tell you how it's feeling

Christopher is kinda right.

Though I am looking forward to this big time, there is really nothing special about this. The Fact that it has no MIDI is a huge glaring flaw that makes it inferior to various hombrew efforts coming down the pike. Nobody is mentioning the drawbacks like having to make a rig to get music onto a pc or mac. I am buying this for the stability and documentation and having a portable musical sketchpad.

I'm sure tons of people will do amazing things with this, it just seems they dropped the ball on the most important features that are important for serious musicians.

I'm still getting this though

I agree with what Melody said. If you're gonna remake Bards Tale than improve on it. I'm a sucker for these games but there was so little variation. I mean come on do we really have to have the same music for 10 whole levels. Same thing goes for repeating tiles. EOII should have been the starting point not an expansion pack sequel.
I'll be waiting for dragon quest for my old fashion grinding pleasure.

iPhone games priced cheaper than DS titles

Jun 6th 2008 7:06PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
There are a number of factors here.

I live in NY and use TMobile for my cell carrier. So I'm not getting an Iphone anytime soon. And that goes for all the other non AT&T folks as well.
Another big factor is that the Iphone itself is going to have some very real competition very soon. Google android is looking and sounding powerful and open. So Touchscreen WI-FI devices with expandable storage will be ubiquitous. I'm just waiting for one to come out on my carrier and I'm gettin it. This is a real threat to Apple's stakes in the wireless arena.

If HTC,Samsung and LG can keep the prices competitive (I don't think they can), then they can give the Iphone a real challenge. This isn't going to be as easy as Apple's current dominance with the Ipod. Some of the above co's will not stand by and let Apple just come and take their market share without a fight.

The real factor is the games. If big developers make AAA games on the IPhone, than it will become a viable competitor to the DS (and PSP). And anyone who says they can't make a big dent in the casual market is smoking paint.

As far as I'm concerned: all bets are off.

That being said, the DS is the best console out right now, and I cant wait to play Dragon Quest IX or Castlevania, or Final Fantasy IV, or Disgaea, or Bangaioh,or Korg DS-10, or Ifinite Line............Good Luck Apple

So you love Advance Wars: Days of Ruin?

May 16th 2008 7:06PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
No more of this. I'm at over 100 hours. I don't even play rpgs that long. If Etrian Odessey had a clock though, i might be ashamed.
