Windows 7 Activation Technologies Update now live, ready to be dodged

Feb 24th 2010 9:04AM (Engadget)
If anyone installed by mistake, you can uninstall it, by opening "Program and Features", click on "View installed update", find the one in the list with the code KB971033 (the one without any publisher name - except for silverlight)., and click on "Uninstall".

Voila! All removed and no need to restart your computer.

Microsoft says Windows 7 battery 'issue' isn't one

@DanLee81
I have a 9-cell battery on my laptop, it's 4 month over 1 year old.
I still have have 5 hours of battery life (almost 9 hours when the battery was new), wear level 61%, and Win7 complains about my system shutting down. I don't care about the message, if it AT LEAST showed me the battery time (I am using now a widget.. which I don't like to have)

USB 3.0 SuperSpeed gone wild at CES 2010, trumps even your new SSD

The new eSATA ports has power... it uses a eSATA/USB combo port, so that it can use the power pin of USB to power the device. Not only you can fit a USB and the traditional eSATA device on the very same port, but you can also use the new powered eSATA standard.

Already they are USB memory keys that have that port (as well as a USB port so that you can plug-it on non-compatible systems).
Like this one: http://www.trustedreviews.com/storage/review/2009/12/03/Verbatim-eSATA-USB-Combo-SSD-32GB/p2

The BIG problem with USB standard for usage with device storage, is that it's only 1 direction at a time. If you read and write at the same time, the process speed will be MUCH slower, as read and write calls fight to get access to the device. If you decide to compress a file ON the external device powered by USB, it will also be much slower than just transfer the file on your system, compress it, and send it back to the device (of course, on very large compression job, I am talking about... assuming that you have a script done to perform the process, and that read and write speed is the same and good).

This is why Firewire storage device, despite slower than USB 2.0... ends up to be faster at the end of the day. Firewire flash drive don't exists as Firewire cost more to implement, and that it's rarely used bidirectional on a flash drive.. people usage put some file in or out, and that is all.. As now capacity allows to have more data on such device it gets more and more interesting to have bi-directional transfer ability... well now he have powered eSATA so no use for Firewire.

Twitter for Zune coming tomorrow, @Facebook where are you?

@poematik14
No. I think Microsoft has a hard time accepting the Zune themselves. One part they want to make an MP3 player, the other they don't, and to top thing over.. another third part wants integration with Windows Mobile 7. This is my guess.

And Zune Pass! Why Microsoft doesn't want my money?!

Dell facing massive E6400 and E6500 overheating and underclocking problem?

Dec 1st 2009 9:35AM (Engadget)
@Feaross

No issue here... maybe because I took the Nvidia graphic solution instead of the Intel 4500XHD. In any case, I can even seriously overclock my GPU during gaming (use Nvidia System tool with profiles) and it still doesn't throttle. I guess this issue only affects some users. Perhaps some board or chip revision causes a problem.

Intel's Cedarview Atom chip rumored to go 32nm in 2011

Ok sooooo, it's an Nvidia ION without CUDA and GPU processing, and basic gaming compatibility, with DDR3 RAM which it won't even take advantage off.

Why not just the ION now or wait for the ION2?

Microsoft roadmap pegs Windows 8 release for 2012, or just after the world's end

The day you'll know how extremely complicated an Operating System is, you'll see that 3 year is not enough time. See how much Vista took in development, because they pretty much decided to redo one form scratch? And despite it's 6 year development.. it still wasn't really ready. It was missing a lot of documentation, pushing hardware manufacture to develop drivers for it, polish Vista even more, update the UI of each software to all match and have a consistent layout with the OS.

I have the Latitude E6400, and I have no spacing between keys, nor large keys on my backlit keyboard. The same applies for my Logitech illuminated keyboard.
