Report: Hackers can pull credit card info from old Xbox 360 hard drives

@killer rin

Yep, even doing a low-level format and writing all zeros to the deleted space can leave traces of what was written there before. It's the nature of the analog medium.

...or just learn how to format it correctly.

@HokieKC

This is something that's been known since the invention of spinning-disc hard drives. Take some time to learn how they work before flaunting your skepticism.

This is an issue with pretty much all hard drives in existence. If you don't securely erase the data, there's a chance it can be recovered. Seems pretty unfair to pin it on Microsoft.

@Marshillboy

Depends on how long you use the hammer for. If you smash the drive to bits, yea, it's gonna be pretty damn hard to get data off of it.

@Shameful Sinner

Tell me you're not serious. I don't think you could be more wrong. First of all, any developer wants you to play their game as much as possible, it's why "replay value" is so sought after. Second, why else would there be a "new game plus" option? They expect most people will want to play through it at least twice.

And on that topic, that's another thing that makes this whole situation so terrible. I assume most players have saved right before the end, so they can just reload and see the other ending choices. But what about the players who don't? I myself did that, but I can't imagine putting another 40+ hours into the campaign, with a different character to see how it plays out, only to end up with an ending that's nearly identical to my first playthrough.

@Cyclone Jack

Ah, so you do agree. I think I read your first reply with the wrong tone. You seemed to be justifying the ending, but your second reply shows you're just as upset about it as the rest of us.
