Square to squeeze FFXIII onto 360 with little compromise

Jul 18th 2008 12:28PM (Joystiq)
Yup everyone steals everything from each other. The greatest compliment than can be given.

Sony, Steam and Blizzard stole achievements from MS
Sony stole PSN idea from MS' XBL
Sony stole Micro-transactions from MS
Sony stole themes from MS
Sony stole sixaxis from Nintendo - wiimote
MS stole "Vision cam" from Sony
MS stole microphone singing game from Sony
MS stole avatars from Nintendo
MS stole HDD install from Sony (not the best thing)
MS stole dashboard update from PSN (keep it fresh)!
MS stole controller from Sony who stole it from Nintendo

Geez I hope I got that all right or I'm going to be flamed - the point is that all the companies have copied from each other. If they can tweak and improve on something - then that's good. Face it, no company is a supreme innovator anymore (well aside from Google ;)

Accept the fact that the company that you root for and makes you feel safe and secure in your purchase has, at some point, stole and implemented an idea and may have even tried to pass it off as it's own invention.

Neil is just using his "word of the day" in a way that will allow him to remember it for the rest of his life. Now, due to diligence in using his new word, so will you (and me) ;)

PS3 firmware 2.40: The good, the bad, and the belated

Jun 30th 2008 9:37AM (Joystiq)
well personally, why is it that community is so important to the xbox people? I thought games were the most important thing to a console? At least that's what I keep hearing from the 360 crowd. I tried the xbox community and I guess I don't fit in because I don't burn crosses or wear white sheets at night.

I like single player games mostly (on consoles) and personally, I think both systems have good games. If I want a rich community that allows for modding and creativity, I'll go to a more mature one like the PC (TF2, COD4, WoW - yes you might laugh at the WoW reference and I find it hard to believe myself but it's users are more mature than the 360 crowd - too much testosterone I guess. Personally, I think achievements are a way to make up for a poor game design. Their purpose is to distract people from the fact that there is really not that much depth in a game.

Pain gets some free content

Play it about once every 2 weeks when my buddies come over.. we play "Horse" and the bowling modes quite a bit. Nothing quite like hitting your buddies with the "Manhole" giant prop when they are lining up for a perfect strike. Looking forward to the new free content - kudos to them!

Microsoft wants to go first (again) with next Xbox

Jun 18th 2008 10:34AM (Joystiq)
"The 10 year life-cycle is just company FUD and they would never, ever let MS have a two year head start, ever."

PS2 is still going strong - where is the original xbox? Sony seems to build their consoles to last longer than 2-3 years and it's something that Microsoft should learn because as a consumer, I don't really feel like going out and buying a new console and going through the painful process of weaker games coming out in the first year.

If you look at years 5+ for the PS2, you will see some amazing games because people really figured out how to get the most out of it. I don't think we are going to see that for the 360 because MS will drop the 360 just as quick and they dropped the original xBox. I support an expensive product as long as it takes in consideration that I don't want to have to upgrade every 2-3 years. Sony was smart in that they built in a lot of good standard technologies into their console (HDMI 1.3, Bluetooth, SATA-HDD, WiFi) while Microsoft thought it was not important. People are now bitching about the high costs of upgrading the 360 to make it current with todays standards. BluRay was icing on the cake for them as a standard was not set at the time of release.

Rumor: New achievements coming to older Valve games

Achievements are to guys what make-up is to women.

Men/Women who suffer from low self-esteem or confidence issues need something to make themselves feel better about themselves.

PS3 beats Wii in Japan for second week

Nov 25th 2007 7:44PM (Joystiq)
You sound like a pretty shitty friend to me - you let your console bias affect someone who actually did some research and had a need that is completely different than yours.

The PS3 is a great deal for someone who is looking to buy an inexpensive HD player. It gets firmware updates constantly and it many functions aside from a simple Blu-Ray player. The 360/HD-DVD combo costs more and your feature/cost ration is weaker.

I worry about the future when idiots like you open your mouth to offer advice that is based on your ignorance and arrogance. Try thinking about others for a change before you mock/bully someone into doing something they don't feel comfortable with. Just a guess, you thought there were WMD's in Iraq right?

PS3 version of Orange Box might be 'downright unplayable'

Nov 25th 2007 7:29PM (Joystiq)
heh heh.. that post was WAY too logical for this forum my friend. Good try though.

I know I'm pissing against the wind here, but who cares about if the game is crap on the PS3? It's clear that Valve hates Microsoft's "Games for Windows" idea (bringing xbox microtransactions to the PC) and they dislike the PS3.

Half Life 2 and the Orange Box is a game that has it's roots in the PC and should never have gone to a console. Team Fortress 2 is da bomb on the PC and the consoles got it weeks after the PC crowd was playing it. Let the console crowds play Halo and Warhawk till the cows come home - they are more suited for console play than the subtleties of a PC MP FPS.
