Flame on: PS3 a 'sinking ship' (PSP, too)

Dec 12th 2008 4:06PM (Joystiq)
BunnySlapper - The idea that there are shortages of a console aren't that ridiculous. The amount of money and resources to create more factories to produce Wii's would destroy the profits that Nintendo has already made. These are self sustained shortages only because the demand is so high. It isn't Nintendo's fault for realizing that over saturating the market would ultimately force them to close factories and lose more money. If Nintendo were really attempting to cut supply then the price would be a lot higher. Demand is what should negotiate price, but Nintendo has kept their console at $250 regardless of how well it is selling and that is why there are constant shortages. If they were to raise the price then they would find an equilibrium and there would be no shortage; however they have decided to keep the console cheaper and just deal with the shortages. The marketing for the Wii is the real source of profit. Their advertising must have really hit home and spread throughout places because it is like nothing ever seen before. It isn't Nintendo's fault that they marketed their product correctly and kept the price low enough to attract even the most non-gamer types to purchase it.

Flame on: PS3 a 'sinking ship' (PSP, too)

Dec 12th 2008 3:14PM (Joystiq)
I've played a PS3 and I like it. The problem is: The economy is in shambles and while it isn't affecting the market for video games as much, it will affect TV Sales and Blu-Ray Sales. I've wanted an HDTV since last Spring (21 years old) and I have yet to buy one because of the price. To fully outfit a PS3 you need ($400 system, around $800 TV, $50 HDMI cable, $20-$30 Blu Ray movies, $60 games). That whole setup is $1300 or more.

Given that to do the same thing for a 360 it will cost you just a little less, but with how people are penny pinching now it just seems like dolling out cash for non needed goods is falling fast.

I really think Blu Ray needs to cut down on their prices before it actual becomes a real replacement for DVD. The price factor is just too much right now for people to handle.

Dokapon Dealdom

Dec 12th 2008 2:55PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I picked up Dokapon today. I have my free month of prime so I figured it'd be worth it. For $15 you need to get about two hours of play out of it for it to be worth it. So I think I can do that.

Wii Warm Up: Did Strong Bad win you over?

Dec 11th 2008 2:18PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I used to like Strong Bad, but I didn't bother downloading any of these.

How many hours of gameplay are there in each segment? I wonder if the total of 5 segments = 10 hours or so that would make it a full length game.

XSEED drawing Muramasa: The Demon Blade this summer?

Dec 11th 2008 2:16PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'm looking forward to this game; however, I would need to see some reviews and a lot more gameplay footage before I'd drop $40-$50 on it. That being said, I really like the style.

Nintendo Power: Brawl, Team Ninja staff working on new TMNT fighter

Dec 11th 2008 2:14PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I have limited expectations for this game, but if it plays at all like Brawl then I'd be enjoying it. The cast of Turtles is really large too so it'd be easy to have 30 characters if they were willing to create it.

That aside, I feel like it'll be 12-15 characters and star mostly the turtles. I'm just imagining Brawl with Turtle environments, that would be so awesome.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom site offers resource for importers

Dec 11th 2008 2:11PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'm just wondering what you have to really do so that an import can play? I'm not a fan of modding at all though. Would there be a chance that Capcom would just release it here without changing anything except the region? I don't care about the text, I just think this game looks awesome.

Wii Warm Up: GC vs CC

Dec 2nd 2008 10:58AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
My only problem with the CC is that the cord runs from the bottom of the controller. This was absolutely not necessary. It should've just been an exact replica of the SNES and had the cord from the top.

That is my only small gripe, I don't own a GC so I play everything CC that requires that type of controller.

Metareview -- Animal Crossing: City Folk (Wii)

Nov 18th 2008 7:13PM (Joystiq)
I only own the Wii and this doesn't really appeal to me. I might get it for the Wii Speak and Wii Speak Channel, but I really don't see it being that much fun. So with that said, I might just be buying Wii Speak separately.

Metareview -- Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (Xbox 360, PS3)

Nov 18th 2008 7:10PM (Joystiq)
I put it in a reply but I figured I'd repost it as its own topic.

GPA 4.0 scale
B- = 2.7
2.7/4.0 = 67.5

That is my guess of what metacritic is doing.
