Infamous 2 bolts for Game Informer cover
Jun 7th 2010 9:26AM (Joystiq)On the other hand, some hero's and heroines have had more drastic changes than that. I mean, zelda changed her eye color and became a ninja; Terra from final fantasy VI couldn't decide her own hair color for the life of her (is it green or blonde?)... so I suppose we shouldn't be too suprised.
speaking of which... what other video game characters just look different in sequels?

Apr 8th 2010 9:22AM (Joystiq)let's rephrase the exact same thing to make you sound stupid:
"Those that support this big company want to screw the little guy... man it's ironic how much they hate those evil corporations"
It would almost make more sense if you said zebra's were yellow and red and seafaring. Those that are all pro-sony now are NOT the ones that are all anti-big-company before.
If you misspoke btw, it's still wrong. This angers more than freetards - it angers anyone that feels they're getting a deal they weren't promised. Do you hate it when a company purposely and without good reason takes away a feature you already bought? If you buy a golden-barreled pen, and the company recalls all pens to change the gold case for gold-plated pewter... the majority of pen-owners don't see the difference but in the end they would all feel shafted.

Apr 8th 2010 9:07AM (Joystiq)when you close something off, you piss off smart people. They will do one of 3 things:
1. care less about your system. (This isn't very measurable, but they will be less likely to buy the system and more likely to sell/switch to a competitor)
2. Hack your system (You're giving them the moral high ground. Now they're not breaking the system so much as "fixing" it. It just so happens that the fix reveals exploits that eventually allow pirated code to run)
3. Steal your software (well if you have to hack the system to allow it to do what you want it to... it's a small step to download pirated games).
Of course 2 & 3 are pending that your system really does have something to exploit. But then it's as they say - NO system is unbreakable.
And other people - feel free to add to this list.

Jan 16th 2010 9:52PM (Joystiq)As I thought about each game though, I could get near alternatives for free online. The ones I can't I just wouldn't get much of an emotional reaction out of. 10 OK games for $100 isn't nearly as satisfying as 1 or 2 great games you'll remember forever.
It's not the price point. It's the emotion we get when we're thinking about your game. No problem buying Flower and Flow, but will never buy Linger in Shadows, even for $1.50.
Final MAG beta statistics released, over one million served
Jan 16th 2010 9:39PM (Joystiq)Here is what happens to me in a normal shooter:
- One or two people kill three times more than anyone else - They win
- The best person on my team runs out (alone) to kill people - he's in the top players
- Mic talk (if there is any) often revolves around owning people and adolescent jokes. Any attempt at serious information is meaningless, as it will become irrelevant in less than 2 seconds (someone dies, the players moves).
Here is what happened in the one day I played the MAG beta before it closed:
- I run like crazy, watching what other people do and shooting whenever i see a bad guy (I die a few times in the run for obvious reasons each time)
- I get to the base with relative safety in numbers, trying to think of strategy and places to set up (I die a few times, again for learning-curve reasons)
- My squad leader and the one other person talk battle tactics (both adolescent by their voice) - they decide we should flank - I follow them
- in hiding in the bushes I am able to kill a few people (with help from my team). I gain new respect for adolescent voices and decide I'll trust my virtual life to them.
Wait... strategy? teamwork? as the default of a shooter?
Wait... you actually loose if you DON'T do these things?
I didn't see any of the common (silly) complains of too large of a map or too many players. It was the most comfortable I've ever felt with maps actually. Things change when it's objective based rather than run around and shoot whatever-whatever-you-see based. You don't get penalized for stupid players (aside from not relying on them in battle), and well... the whole thing was a lot of fun.
