Whoever thinks VB is dead and C# is got superior sintax and other crap is seriously ignorant. Not only do they share the same framework and are managed code (which makes them perform virutually equally) but VB's sintax is by far the easier sintax.
Yes, C# gets some features first, but that doesn't mean VB is dead.
"Nintendo is the best first party game maker in the world, they have the games people want so they have a monopoly on the industry"
Since when does nintendo have a monopoly anymore? Do you people even think before posting?
Now to put all the analisys to rest and draw the bottom line: The initial argument fails because we gamers want games. Period.
If Sony or MS want to give their consoles away with things we the consumers didn't ask for in the first place that's their problem. I didn't ask for blu ray or an Expensive HD compliant console, I asked for the games and that's the bottom line.
If nintendo has the games of course I'm going to buy their console at an affordable price regardless of if they're making profit, instead of buying a ps3 at a not so much affordable price regardless of if they're almost giving it away.
"If a company is unwilling to subsidize, it means a subsidy is a matter of life and death for them. This is a play to decrease risk. If the Wii were a sure-fire money maker"
I think you're taking my comment a little from the wrong point of view. What I meant is that the current business practice of selling hardware at a loss clearly isn't a good strategy, and the fact that Sony and MS are going to lose millions, or maybe billions of dollars(MS again and Sony maybe for the first time in this industry) is a clear sign of that.
Nintendo knows this, and as such they decided to change their business practice and market a product just in the same way they marketed the DS. A experience you can't get anywhere, albeit at a lesser price.
It isn't as if they're evil and want to sell us crap on purpose. For all I've seen the Wii will be worth it and I won't have to buy an expensive HDTV to enjoy it.
I mean, even the GC wasn't sold at a loss in its early days. It's a business practice
I mean, you talk as if Sony and MS were doing a sacrifice, when in reality the three are just as greedy.
Why don't you post that as well, that the ultimate goal of these corporations is our money and that if they didn't have competition they would not have as much reasons to lose money on hardware to regain it with software sales?
" A larger, up-front investment indicates stronger confidence that a product will eventually be successful enough to pay for initial investment."
It means nothing in this case. At the best it means the company is looking into its corporate survival, and is trying to differentiate themselves by offering something the competition can't, albeit at a lesser cost.
That's the lamest thing I've seen joystiq posting, and something that really takes away from your credibility.
That sounds very unlikely to me. Sony is Still selling ps2s by gazillions, and selling the console at that price just means massive losses.
Unless they have this magic plan to sell millions upon millions of software copies They can kiss any profit goodbye. Besides, at 500 they would be offering a pretty good deal. They just have to advertise the BR player and compare the price to stand alone players and every silly consumer on earth will consider it a bargain, regardless of if they really need it.
