Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster video review: Going to town in a Lincoln
Mar 2nd 2011 8:50PM (Joystiq)Doesn't work that way, the Squier has a MIDI-out port, and on top of that, it outputs non-standard MIDI commands that are specific to Rock Band 3. Someone came up with a DIY solution, but it requires expensive hardware.

Mar 2nd 2011 8:46PM (Joystiq)I don't know, I think it's a fair price, it's a $250 body with sensors and all kinds of other tech built into the neck and body. I really thought it would be priced more in the 350 range. Plus they're not going to be as mass-produced as a lot of Fender's other stuff.
I can see it not being worth it for someone like yourself that has already invested in instruments, but I think it's an attractive deal for someone looking to learn guitar, considering the associated game is a pretty decent teacher.
Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster video review: Going to town in a Lincoln
Mar 2nd 2011 8:32PM (Joystiq)This isn't really aimed at existing guitarists, more like rhythm gamers that want to make the jump from plastic to real guitarist.
For what it's worth, though, it is not only a great starter guitar, but by far the best MIDI guitar solution you can find (and probably the cheapest, being less that $300)

Activision axing Guitar Hero and True Crime; Freestyle Games reportedly hit with layoffs [update]
Feb 9th 2011 6:41PM (Joystiq)...[reads comments]...mumble mumble...SOTC, right on, right on...
Alright,
1 - looking back, my previous comment was probably a bit harsh (also presumptive). My apologies. Hopefully the point I was trying to make wasn't lost in that.
2 - Games don't necessarily have to be masterpieces of "art" to be worthy of it's place on the store shelves. These games tend to bring people/families together in a way most games cannot (no one's ever gonna get together at a bar on a weekly basis to play Ico).

Feb 9th 2011 6:26PM (Joystiq)FPSs = basically, you aim and shoot (preferably for the head), the only changes I've seen are in the details, like physics, weapon balancing, varying recoil, and, uh...OH! Chopper gunners. And zombies (no, wait, scratch that, Wolfenstein 3D had that covered back in '92)
Sports titles, particularly Madden = a gradual series of cosmetic refinements/roster updates, each iteration giving you slightly more ways to do the same thing you did the previous year. The only real additions I can think of were the various team/league management options and, in some cases, separate game modes.
Not that I'm really bashing any of these games, I'm just tired of seeing people that have been jumping on the rhythm gaming "backlash bandwagon", complaining that the more recent games have nothing new to offer when that couldn't be farther from the truth.
RB3 is proof of how far this genre has come: you can have 2 squiers (real guitars) a vocalist, and you can hook up real midi drumkits and keyboards. THAT'S A REAL BAND (ok, technically a cover band, but still cool). In 5 years we've gone from playing plastic toy guitars to PLAYING REAL INSTRUMENTS.
I don't see a game mode in NBA 2K11 that teaches you how to actually shoot hoops. I don't see Halo preparing anyone to kick REAL alien ass.
I don't see fitness games teaching you how to actually work ou...wait, nevermind.
