LG unveils 21.5-inch W2261VG LCD TV with 50,000:1

Feb 27th 2009 7:30AM (Engadget HD)
Engadget folks are such tools. Did Engadget actually measure the contrast ratio? Nope. How do they know it capable of 50,000-to-1 CR? They do not. They simply believe anything that is marketed to them and re-market.

More details on Comcast's On Demand Online internet TV offering

Feb 25th 2009 6:00AM (Engadget HD)
This is seriously stupid. Comcast imposes caps on their Internet data service. This would have to be restricted to low-definition content as under their network throttling you would only get 75% of your bandwidth. For someone on their 6Mbps service, the resulting best-throttled condition will not support high-definition.

Of course being a non-cable TV subscriber such as I am, I really do not even know if their VOD even offerd HD, and low-def isn't something I'd be interested in regardless of how it is transported.

Where are these things sold? I see a lot of reporting on products like this, but I never see them offered in retail. Are they only available online and via non-chain resellers?

I just don't get this netbook craze. Inexpensive full blown laptops cost $400-500. Buying a $400 netbook to get 3/4 the performance, capacities, and features seems strange. This is almost like the Nintendo DSlite craze. And now the netbook thingy has caught the wife's attention--just like the DSlite.

Overpriced, especially in this economy. But, trekkies will give up food for this.

You can buy a standard definition digital TV for $129.99 from Best Buy. Its a 20" unit and will look far better than the analog counterpart. I guess people can afford one habit and not another.

Epson adopts new color metric for projector performance

Feb 11th 2009 5:26AM (Engadget HD)
Sounds like Epson has found a way to market its weaknesses as strengths. You go Epson!
