Stringer says PS3 is "future proof."

Jun 28th 2006 12:35AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Yeah, the only difference between HD-DVD and Blu-ray is that Blu-ray holds a bit more and reads a bit faster. Also, Blu-ray is a lot more expensive, which is why I think Blu-ray will lose the format war. Blu-ray is only a little bit better, but a lot more expensive than HD-DVD. In the end, because of this, HD-DVD will win because it's cheaper.

99 Nights, 1 hard drive

Jun 27th 2006 12:10AM (Joystiq Xbox)
You're not supposed to put your music on your Xbox, or any of your media for that matter. That's what the iPod and Media Center compatibilities are for.

And 500GB is way too much. All they need is a good 100GB and it would be more than enough.

99 Nights, 1 hard drive

Jun 26th 2006 4:43PM (Joystiq Xbox)
The fact that it needs a hard drive is a good thing. That means, like Oblivion, it will be able to have better graphics and more units on the screen and such because it will cache things in the hard drive. And anyone with intelligence probably bought the premium package anyway.

I don't even understand why anybody bought the core system. For the premium system, you pay $100 extra but if you add up everything you get way more than $100 of stuff. The hard drive alone costs $100, plus you get an XBL headset and a wireless controller.

So for all you n00bs who bought the core system, it was your fault you didn't get the HDD when you got the chance.

How Microsoft might lead in market share

Jun 26th 2006 7:11AM (Joystiq)

Varian,
In your little comarisons you forgot a couple small details...

FACT: Xbox has been out for five years and had time to accumulate sales, where the 360 has been out for, like, seven months. Try comparing instead the current 360 sales with Xbox sales as of ITS seven-month mark.

FACT: Xbox 360 had massive console shortages at launch. Know what that means? It means there was more demand than supply, meaning that Microsoft didn't even have enough consoles to fulfill everyone's wish to purchase a 360. The 360 is still as popular, so they probably will sell close to 10 million by the PS3 launch.

Try looking at the actual information that you're saying instead of just blurting out useless and false things without thinking.

DS releases for the week of June 26th

Jun 26th 2006 3:47AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Well, if whining makes them push it back, then how's this:

Thank you, Orbital Media, for delaying Scurge for so long! We realize that these delays allow more time to make the game better, so thank you for doing so in order to produce a top-quality game. I think I speak for the entire gaming community when I praise your generosity and look up to your wonderful sacrifice just for us gamers who you have shown you hold dear to your hearts. Once again, I thank you for delaying your wonderful game, Scurge, so that you may make it an even more wonderful game!

There, now let's see them handle THAT top-notch reverse psychology!

P.S. - If you are a representative of Orbital Media, Inc. then please forget that you read the last sentence, above this post-script. I believe it will benefit us all for you to not realize my plan to trick you.

Street Fighter II on XBLA dated for July 30?

Jun 26th 2006 3:37AM (Joystiq)
"Actually Street Fighter 2 came out about 1991-'92"

Just because it came out in the '90s doesn't mean it wasn't first an arcade release. In fact, it was. All the Street Fighter games came out in arcades quite a while before they were ported to console.

Street Fighter II on XBLA dated for July 30?

Jun 26th 2006 1:25AM (Joystiq)
Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting is being released on the Xbox 360 so that people can play it online.
When people take emulated games online, they all cheat and use macros. I know because I've played emulated games on the internet through various programs. Everyone you play against cheats with macros, which completely ruins the fun of the game.
On a 360, macros are impossible, and so is cheating. Also, it's possible to get good online play with minimal lag. And if they delayed this game because of laggy connections, then it's really good that they delayed it. Fighting games are very precise if you know what you're doing. There is timing on certains things which can be all the way down to 5 FRAMES for an input window. That's 5/60ths of a second. Lag completely ruins this kind of timing that exists in fighting games, which is why the most hardcore people don't like online play. It's because even seemingly lag-free connections cause timing differences, where using one console for multiplayer literally eliminates lag completely, making the game more playable.

I'm glad they delayed it. They saved me from wasting my money on a would-be-worthless title. Now it should be more worth it.

The FPS conundrum

Jun 26th 2006 12:30AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Well the single stick control in PD and Goldeneye worked fine, because the auto-aim was crazy. Still an amazing game. They're my two favorite FPS titles I've ever played.

That's also not my fanboyism talking, it's my game preference. I just happen to prefer PD and Goldeneye to Halo, and so I will suggest it as a good game for people to play. It's how it works.

Assassin's Creed not so exclusive for PS3

Jun 26th 2006 12:20AM (Joystiq Xbox)
If Sony does indeed not get this as an exclusive title, then all they need to do now is lose the main Final Fantasy series exclusivity and the PS3 will completely fail. It will only sell to people who buy the PS3 just because it's a PlayStation.

Weird slots on Wii gamepad

#33, have you ever heard of not acting like a douche on the internet? Try contributing to the discussion instead of acting like a moron. People pay more attention when you do that.
