Why doesn't Nintendo offer this kind of trade in program for old NES, SNES, and N64 games so that I can get a discount on the the wii store?

the older generation consoles that had backwards compatibility used the same medium for playing them on. That would be like someone else said feeling entitled to a free tetris because you bought it for NES and your SNES doesnt use the same cartridge. There wasnt much difference between gameboys any way. i remember playing pokemon on the old fatboys even though they were meant for gameboy color. If the PSV had a UMD reader and it just couldnt play PSP UMDs that would be different but that is not the case.

thats a dumb arguement, all those had the same format and size for their older games. Vita doesn't have a UMD reader so it doesn't make sense for it to play UMD games. But you're right i was pleased to find out my VHS could play DVDs
