We focus almost primarily on XBLIG. We play every game every week and recommend good ones. We also have full reviews, podcast, trailers, etc.

XBLIG creators express disappointment with low sales

@theBrayn The peer review process is merely to make sure the game works. It doesn't have anything to do with the actual quality of the game.

Microsoft takes measure to counter alleged Indie Games ratings manipulation

Apr 20th 2011 9:41AM (Joystiq)
@i77ogical Of course its alleged manipulation. Microsoft hasn't come out and officially said what happened, other than the fact that they were looking into things and this is their solution.

So, anything else is merely speculation and interpretation. It is irresponsible journalism to state things as fact without having any confirmation of it truly being fact, thus it is alleged.

It's possible that it's the work of 1 person with script, it's possible that it is the result of numerous fanbases attacking and counterattacking each other, or it's possible that it's the law of averages, and as games with niche appeals receive exposure to wider audiences, those audiences don't embrace them.

Xbox Live Indie Gems: Aban Hawkins & the 1000 Spikes

Mar 4th 2011 1:29PM (Joystiq)
@Elranzer Metroid and Zelda are difficult, cryptic games. Not difficult like Aban Hawkins, but hard. Check out Tempura of the Dead for a retro game that isn't so frustrating. It's actually made by the same guy that did Aban Hawkins.

Explosionade dev delaying release until XBLM 'is less broken'

Oct 5th 2010 11:23AM (Joystiq)
@Ellimem That's an idealist sentiment, but it's completely wrong when it comes to indie games. Almost nobody pays them any attention, and the ONLY way of making money is to make it onto the "Top Downloaded" section. If indie developers have any shot of making money, they need the system to work and for the games that get downloaded as new releases to end up on that chart. Otherwise, they will be lost in the shuffle of 1300 indie games on the XBL marketplace.

The idea that good games will be played is fantastic, but flawed, especially when it comes to Xbox Live Indies. There are a handful of success stories (mostly involving zombies or avatars), and a ton of disasters.

Hard Corps: Uprising is Contra in all but name

Jun 23rd 2010 12:12AM (Joystiq)
I kind of miss the serious tones of contra, but I'm still all over this game when it comes out. I love hard corps, and hope this somehow gets the contra moniker when its released.
