Developers deem piracy a problem, not a threat in survey

Nov 10th 2009 1:58PM (Joystiq)
Piracy is an epidemic that's not limited to the PC platform anymore. Modern Warfare 2's zero day 360 release before the PC pirated release just demonstrated just how potent console piracy will become. The days of proclaiming the PC as the exclusive platform of the high seas is over.

According to the developers, you can now eject your heat sink and replace it instead of waiting for your weapon to cool down.

Sonic Universe #6: The Unofficial Sonic Fandom Test

Jul 28th 2009 3:32AM (Joystiq)
I actually bought this issue and found it to be an enjoyable read. I think the problem is that this story is right in the thick of a story arc which likely contributes to the confusion. The costume came out perfectly and I wore it to Comicon as a matter of fact, thankyouverymuch.

Joking aside, I think the latest games beyond the Dreamcast-era suck donkey balls. The comic has been far more entertaining than what the Sonic Team lately tries to pass off as games. I found that the comic has far better plot, writing, character development, and dialogue than what the official games can muster up, partly due in part that the comic uses the awesome 90s Sonic cartoon as the backdrop and because of the nature of the serialized format.

Ever since Ian Flynn took over the horrid writing that was prevalent in the comic book before, the comic has never been better. It's pretty much the only Sonic medium I tolerate these days.

Wiimote genius Johnny Chung Lee on Project Natal team

NaturalPoint relies on devices that emit and receive infrared waves that are reflected back using worn reflectors. What makes Natal so impressive is that it relies on image recognition and depth sensors. Totally different underlying technologies and Natal can do so much more than simple headtracking that TrackIR does.

I love my TrackIR but it's difficult for me to say that Natal isn't impressive. I can't wait to have headtracking in 360 games without having to wear a hat or headphones. I'm so used to playing games like Lock-On: Modern Air Combat and Falcon 4.0 with headtracking that imagining Ace Combat and HAWX with this stuff makes me salivate.

Having finished all six episodes of Wolfenstein 3D on my iPod Touch, I wish they'd release Spear of Destiny for XBLA/PSN/iPhone now.

More than 17,000 people attended GDC 2009

Apr 1st 2009 3:58AM (Joystiq)
People never seem to ever understand what GDC is about.

GDC is a conference for developers to learn new techniques and technology while allowing a forum for developers to network and talk to each other without being encumbered by the cutthroat market dynamics of the game industry. It's about learning faster algorithms for ray cast rendering particles and A* pathfinding. It's about setting up the high probability of Ciff Blezinki being in the same room as Hideo Kojima. It's about giving lowly modders trying to make a break into the industry a chance to get David Jaffe or Sid Meier's business card.

GDC can be used as a public relations tool but to ask that it come to the level of even the crappy E3s will disappoint the people that make the products that public relations is trying to sell in the first place.

For a second there, I thought Activision was making Quantum of Solace a PS3 exclusive. :P

Bungie: Game companies should pocket money from used sales

Sep 26th 2008 11:42PM (Joystiq)
I don't understand why aren't the publishers taking the effort to beat GameStop at their own game. They should just suck it up and institute a buy back program for used games and create larger incentives than that of GameStop. It'll put less used games out on the market which would create less competition for newly printed games they put on shelves.

The publishers should create some sort of second-hand game brand label and resell their bought back games to lesser tiered retailers at a reduced prices. Car manufacturers and electronics manufacturers do this all the time. They sell "recertified" vehicles or "refurbished" products received through RMAs and buy backs.
