A Wii Thanksgiving test on the family: Part 2

Nov 25th 2006 1:04PM (Joystiq)
The only thing that concerns me here is that the writer had to "lug" a Nintendo Gamecube. You should really get yourself to a doctor if a GC puts you into lugging mode. Hopefully Nintendo is doing it's part to help by giving gamers the Wii. Although the Wiimotes are not heavy, thousands of reps should at least improve tone...

Nintendo's new Zelda falls flat

Unbelieeeeeeeeeeeeeevable.
Immediately he hates the game because he happens to feel some shortcomings about it? The fact that the blogger felt the need to open with a disclaimer about his personal health sums up the truth about critiquing these days, you can only expect an immediate flamefest from the fanboys.
Zeldas a great game but u don't even entertain the thought that there are flaws? Link can ride my effen pony if he wants, dig?

Wii impressions: WarioWare Smooth Moves

I think Vinces (#17) point is completely valid. It's true that the console will attract more non-gamers to gaming but I think that it will short change other aspects for hardcore gamers. I've been haveing a discussion on another board about Madden for the Wii. I truly don't believe that the hardcore Madden fans will consider playing their entire seasons on this console. Those guys play real quarter lengths and the whole ten yards! Imagine snap-juke-throw times 500. No way. And don't even get me started on how they're going to impliment REAL footy! Tape the Wiimote to your damn shoe!? wtf

A size issue perhaps?

Wii impressions: Madden NFL 07

Avinash_Tyagi,

It's entirely possible that Jason even enjoyed playing the game as everyone else did (just speculating) but prior to writing his comment reflected on more than just the infatuation of playing a new game at a huge entertainment expo. Maybe he sees the monotony of 'snap-look-throw/handoff' as just too much. I personally can hardly get throught a football game with short quarters on a regular control scheme, let alone having to physically repeat this process all those times. Think about the guys that are hardcore full-time-quarter-playing, full-season-strategizing, team-management type guys. I seriously doubt they are going to want this control setup for their fetish level of football gaming. So maybe Jason sees it as his job to inform them that this might not be the console for them if that is, their, bag, baby!

Wow. Just because the man doesn't think the control scheme will work for a football title he suddenly has a bias towards Ninty! You don't think you're being overly defensive about this because of subconsious worry and doubt do you? Would you be happier if every report out of E3 said every game was flawless and then bought the system only to find that wow, you to think that playing football with a Wiimote sucks to. Especially the first time you brain fart and throw the Wiimote off the wall!

I think it is only subjective journalism to have human reactions to these things, and the better for all of us who can't be there and are trying to make decisions about how we'll spend our well earned money. I believe the Wii will be a true breakthrough in certain aspects of gaming. I also believe that there are certain things you should never do with your Wii and football players happens to be near the top of the list.

Microsoft Xbox 360 event pre-game coverage!

I'm SO interested to see their games! Fanboys, say what you want about system specs or innovations but it's the game content that makes my decisions at the end of the day.

Hope the Joystiq folks are holding up alright! To be over-tired and so amped at the same time must be crazy!!

PlayStation 3 in its final form [update 1]

"Note that their motion sensitivity is just six degrees of rotation left and right, so it is not an incredibly accurate thing. It's nothing close to the Wii controller functionality, which can sense any kind of movement you do and mimic it on screen exactly."

I believe they said "six degrees of freedom" which is entirely different than six degrees of rotation. Google can help you with enlightening yourself (check naturalpoints website for a 6dof product).

PlayStation 3 in its final form [update 1]

I never really did go for the recent hype of a lower price point so that comes as no shock. The truth is that I am going to save from now till Nov, I already have some $ banked on an EB card. How hard is it to put aside a bit here and there for a few months? I like driving and fighting games and I'm a hardware tech geek so little things like that PSP rear view pump me up! Sony has some of thier own innovation going, though the motion tracking and net gaming are definitely not original ideas what about that weird card game? There is a lot of room for innovation. Mercury can finally be realized with a tilt sensor damnitt!!!
