The Joystiq Show - 001: Duke Nukem Forever

Jul 1st 2011 9:13PM (Joystiq)
Just to get this out of the way: it's entertaining, it's unique, it's thoughtful, and the production values are high. I even like the idea of thematic episodes, although I could not give two shits about DNF and stopped thinking even the IDEA of it was funny about six years ago. There's nothing I've heard like it across the vast sea of gaming podcasts, which yes, were all starting to sound like Joystiq/X3F. I'm subscribed, and you can bet I'll keep listening.

But, still. The podcasts it "replaced" were best-of-class. Yes, they were doing what everyone else was doing, but they were doing it better, with great chemistry, great editorial direction, and legitimately funny banter. Over the years, as I whittled down the amount of gaming podcasts I had in iTunes, they were the last two left I bothered to listen to. And in terms of something to emotionally connect to, this just doesn't compare.

Anyway, I'm a grownup, and I feel like a dick getting on a message board to bitch because someone took away three hours of totally free weekly entertainment. But I did want to say: Joystiq's got some of the best, and most interesting, editorial voices in the industry, and when this show was announced, I was hoping it would be an opportunity to bring more of those voices front and center. This isn't doing that, and because it's come at the cost of shows that did, it seems like a shame.

I feel dumb asking, but is there a link in the post somewhere? I couldn't find it.

In case I'm NOT an idiot (and it really is missing), looks like it's this'un:

Texas Gov. signs game developer tax break bill into law

Um, that link is to HB 0873 in legislative session 79R. You'll be wanting 81R.

79R HB 0873 DOES relate to gaming in that it prevents homeowner's associations from limiting which flags can be flown on your property. So if you wanted to put a big triangular flag with a peace sign outside your house, the annoying Italian plumbers next door can't make you take it down.
