How Apple iBooks could compete with Amazon's Kindle in the ebook space (Updated)

May 25th 2011 2:40PM (TUAW.com)
Just an FYI... I have a bunch of books on Fictionwise that you mentioned in your article and almost all of them can be downloaded in ePub format. So I simply pulled them into iTunes and they are now iBooks on my iPhone and iPad. I believe I did have to manually find the cover art and paste it into iTunes though. I also had iBooks say a few of the books weren't in the right format, so I downloaded the PDF format from Fictionwise and used them.

Most of my stuff from Fictionwise is either completely free or I got it from their monthly promotions where they give away certain books for free. I'm not sure if DRM'd ePub files from other ebook stores would work, though.

Mainly I just wanted to point out that you should be able to put some of your Fictionwise books into iTunes/iBooks.

iPads surfing the Web outnumber Linux machines

Apr 21st 2011 7:58PM (TUAW.com)
Don't forget that Mac OS is Linux as well. So really what this shows is that Windows has 82% of the marketshare, Linux has 16%, and the iPad has 1.18%. Or that Apple has 16% and Windows has the rest, except this doesn't factor in iPhones which would inflate the number significantly. Not to mention that "the first 19 days of April 2011" is probably not statistically relevant and there is also almost 1% missing from the graph, which is more than what Linux is showing so why is Linux even on there?

5 things I want to see in iOS 5

Apr 4th 2011 9:18PM (TUAW.com)
I totally agree. I submitted that enhancement request on Apple's site. Its really annoying because for me its usually a conference call number with a passcode. I'd also like it to recognize all of the following as a pause:
* comma
* ext, ext. or simply x
* space

TUAW TV Live: How would you improve the Mac OS?

Mar 23rd 2011 9:38PM (TUAW.com)
Yes, please allow us to copy-paste and cut-paste files in the Finder. It is so much easier to move files around that way and you only need a single window. This becomes even more important on smaller screens like the MacBook Air.

Long-time Mac users can still drag-and-drop folders as they do today, but heavy keyboard users will become much more efficient.

Preview: PlayStation Home pg2

Sep 21st 2008 8:49PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Its funny reading through all the banter back and forth about this. If we weed out the fanboys, you can slowly gleen some real information about it. Personally, I am very excited about PS Home. I know there are going to be things about it that I wish were better/more functional, but this is a great concept.

My kids and all their friends have Xbox 360's. I have a PS3 because its cool, plays Blueray movies, and I can keep them off of MY gaming system. However, that means I basically have no PS3 friends. I'm looking forward to Home as a way to interact with people on a slightly more personal level than just randomly playing someone on GHIII or ATV vs. MX or whatever and having NO idea who the person is.

This is an ambitous project that is truly revolutionary in nature and will evolve into a great social networking tool, far beyond MySpace and Facebook. Yes, its realeased late and yes, it will have features missing that we all want, but I believe someday it will evolve to greatness.

I don't even mind paying a few dollars here and there for some cool functionality. I really, really hope that at some point Sony opens up sharing streaming music, movies, picture slideshows, and even sharing online mini-games. I'd pay a small amount for those features and I think others would once the platform games momentum.
