That's why it's set up to compete against people you're friends with as opposed to complete strangers. Unless your pals are gamerscore whores, you can make a challenge for yourself and your friends that gives away a prize to the winner.

So, in essence, you're making your own contest. Fun.

When you add WiFi and an HD-DVD player to your Xbox 360, it pushes the price well above $600. That said, Sony needs to get their marketing dept. on this thing PRONTO to push this thing as a multimedia device and not a game console.

No one, I don't care who you are, will spend $500 on a "video game." However, I would spend $500 on a device that plays next-gen digital video, records live tv (HD feed, of course), and maybe plays a game or two.

All in all, Sony royally screwed themselves by trying to compete against Xbox and Wii. They should have just pushed the Blu-Ray capabilities and the media center possibilities and rolled this thing out slow, letting word of mouth sell the unit to casual gamers as an all-in-one device.

Oh well, you know all those third-party games will show on Xbox 360. Development costs demand it.
