Silver PS2 announced for $129

Oct 30th 2006 7:12PM (Joystiq)
hey, just a quick question to anyone who knows the answer. I'm considering picking one of these up but I'm concerned the controller that the system comes with has had the rumble feature removed. Is sony still selling this system with the dual shock?

on a side note to Raynre, many people do not have a ps2. 111 million systems sold hardly puts a dent into the 6.5 billion potential customers available.

New motion-sensing tech is Wii-beater?

Sorry, but these things can't ever dream of seeing the mainstream success the wii is certainly going to achieve.

Xbox Live members hit the 4 million mark

I wonder how long it will take Nintendo to register 4 million different users on Wii's network. I'd bet on 1 1/2 to 2 years.

Japanese hardware sales, 25 September - 1 October: fully translated edition

Oct 6th 2006 10:46PM (Joystiq)
Wow, PSP doesn't stand a chance. DS numbers are disgusting week after week. A sure sign of things to come once Wii hits Japanese streets.

As for the 360, a 97% increase from last week is huge. However, anyone with an ounce of hope that things will turn around for 360 in Japan better get real. 2195 systems sold on a good week is still a pathetic joke.

Europe's PS3 delay in quotes

SnakeDanteCloud_HolyTrinity said "They want to play that real shit, the GTAs, the Devil may cry's, the Metal Gear Solid, the Final Fantasies, the Gran Turismo, the Guitar Hero, etc. All the badass games that made gaming cool, and took it out of the realm of nerds, fanboys and other dorks."

Are you serious? With the exception of GT, how can you brag about games that are not exclusive to the PS3. Sony wouldn't be around if it wern't for 3rd parties. I'm sure you've noticed many of sony's cherished 3rd parties jumping ship and taking their games else where. Not to mention the gameplay for these games has not changed since the originals. You play one you've played them all. How can you be excited about the sames games with the same controller on a system that will cost you an arm and a leg. Frankly, I dont understand why people continue to buy into Sony's conventionalism. I hope you don't consider your self a real gamer. A true gamer wouldn't buy into this Sony hype. A true gamer know's when they're being fed a bunch of bullshit. A true gamer seeks out new challenges, experiences and never accepts conformity.

Wii production exceeding expectations

51. "Watch the Wii pass the XBox 360 within months of release, despite Microsoft's one-year head start.

All the Nintendo haters of the world won't be able to stop this tidal wave of gaming pleasure, standard-def and all. Deal with it."

Silver, I say Ahmen to that!

If I may add to your post, Good luck to you Sony. Ken Kutaragi needs a giant horse shoe up his ass if Sony's ever going to catch up to the run away Wii install base.

And to all the idiots that insist on calling Wii a Gamecube, a little hindsight might help. SNES is twice the power of NES. Playstation is twice the power of SNES. N64 is twice the power of Playstation. Gamecube is twice the power of N64. And now Wii is twice the power of Gamecube. Nintendo is simply keeping the status quo of the past 20 yrs of gaming when jumping from one gen to the next. I'm fine with that. Sony fan boys go buy your $600 PS3, I hope you enjoy playing regurgitated sequels with an archaic control scheme you've been using for over 10 yrs. Because thats what your gonna get. I seriously don't understand how someone can consider them self a gamer and not be interested in the potential of Wii.

PS3: Dual Shake is dead, long live Sixaxis

Oct 3rd 2006 2:31PM (Joystiq)
You know, it still baffles me how Sony can get away with this garbage. The original Playstation came out in 1994 with a controller that was a complete rip off of the original SNES pad. Extended handles (which don't fit the contours of your hand and are largely uncomfortable) and two extra shoulder buttons don't count as innovation when your button layout is identical to your competitors. 1996 rolls around, Nintendo introduces analog control and rumble for first time in console controllers. Game play was changed forever. I don't want to hear any Sony fanboys discredit these two innovations because we all know what happened next. Sony immediately jumped on the bandwagon and crammed two analog sticks and rumble into a controller that was not designed for them in the first place. 12 yrs later, after all the Sony fanboys and dick riding industry insiders claimed the Dual Shock as the "best controller ever" Sony is taking a step backwards with the PS3 controller. A half assed, last minute rip off of the wii remote, while compromising rumble which has a huge impact on game play is not innovative. It's amazing how they can take a step backwards in this regard without ever having took that first step forward. We are still using the same Playstation controller going on a decade and a half. With Sony's plan to keep the PS3 in production for 10 yrs, we will be going on 20 plus yrs of the same controller. What a Joke. To put this into perspective, imagine playing Gamecube with an NES pad. Ridiculous right? well that's exactly what Sony is doing. You'd think, Sony, with all of it's resources would put some financial backing into some R&D for their games division. But they dont, or at least their efforts dont show it. With a huge install base they probably feel they don't have to. They're too busy gouging gamers to push their movie disision. Thats why i'm glad the advancement of the video game industry does not depend on Sony, the so called "leader". As far as gaming in concerned they don't lead shit. Has Sony ever showed any drive in advancing what gaming means? Selling 100 million units does nothing but inflate their ego's. Sony has been riding a wave for the last 12yrs that someone else began. That wave is gonna come crashing down hard in the near future. Pardon the rant.
