Apr 11th 2007 12:36PM (Joystiq)I just hope the backlash for this lands on his scrubby shoulders and not on the shoulders of the game industry... I would think that since it is a movie it would not land on games, but I have been wrong in the past.
Gamestop shenanigans sell open games as 'new'
Mar 26th 2007 4:26PM (Joystiq)I went to GameStop because I had just bought a Wii from the Nintendo store, and never having played the gamecube (hey I am not the only one back off) I wanted to get some older games that I hear were particularly good on it. I browsed around, and decided to get windwaker, and re4. I wanted to get the games new for 20 dollars because the 2 dollar difference (17.99 for used GC games) did not matter as much to me. Anyway they did not have any new copies, now I did not like this, but I understand why they don’t have new copies of old games like that. Then I wanted to buy a gc memory cartridge, at this point I asked them if the Wii can save games without it, on just it’s system memory. They did not know, so I had to look it up on my phone to find out, that no, it wouldn’t. Again this was fine I guess, I mean, mabey they should know seeing as they work in a game shop but whatever right? My real problem with the store was when I wanted to buy a controller. I figured that the used ones where probably broken so I picked up one of their little cardboard representations of a blue controller and gave it to them, they asked me why I didn’t want a used one, and not being an asshole I just told him I figured they didn’t work, anyway he launches into this 15 minute explanation of why I should just get a used one and starts to get defensive when I just tell him no I want a new one. At this point he tells me that they don’t have any new controllers, I thought that perhaps he ment he did not have any of the blue and orange ones because they were discontinued. He says no they don’t have any gamecube controllers in any color that Nintendo made with an attitude, so in the end I left with a used blue one with a clear back mostly because I was late to work and I did not know if target would even have gamecube controllers anymore especially when gamestop apparently did not have them. At any rate my fears were confirmed, the stupid yellow nipple thing did not work (try to play windwaker with a broken nipple, it doesn’t work), and I had to wait a week to return it because I was at school 65 miles away (I live in the dorms). So I go to return it to just get my money back and the guy tells me I can only have store credit, now I looked over the policy and I was within the 7 day return period, anyway he wouldn’t do it. At this point I say fine and get a store credit, thinking maybe I will buy another used game and go somewhere else for a controller (to be fair the used games I bought worked without a problem and I did save 4 dollars). So while I am looking at the gamecube rack right next to the cabinet behind the counter I look over and there are 3 nintendo made gamecube controllers sitting there new in their plastic cases with dust on them a blue one a silver one and a black one, now I know they did not just receive a new shipment of 3 controllers in a week for a old system nobody would buy them for. Either the first guy I spoke to lied to me when he said they did not have any, or he didn’t know what was in the cabinate right behind him when he most likely stands there 8 hours a day. By the time I finished hearing the 15 minute spiel about why I should buy a used controlled after asking for the new one, being told they did not have any, and then pointing directly at the silver one and saying there is a controller right there and then getting that same defensive sort of acknowledgment and response just because I don’t want their broken used stuff I resolved never to go back to that particular gamestop again.
