12 Days of Joyswag: Nintendo 3DS plus eight games (and a ton of Skylanders)

Dec 25th 2011 12:52AM (Joystiq)
Just about everywhere - including my bed, the airport, and at the DMV.

Shigeru Miyamoto 'retiring from current position' at Nintendo, working on smaller games [update: Nintendo denies]

Dec 7th 2011 11:18PM (Joystiq)
I've been feeling that he should have done this awhile ago. It's hard to gauge how effective he's been at bringing up new developers, so I can't speak too much to that. But how long has it been since he really sat down and tried something new? It always seemed to me that he was too busy guiding others and not creating games. I understand that he had an important role, and probably did it very well, but the greatest video game maker of all time should be making video games, not directing people.

Either way, sad to see him go, but I hold out hope that this move will benefit everyone, including gamers.

Editorial -- Nintendo's creeping doom: how the company came to misplace $926 million

Oct 27th 2011 9:43PM (Joystiq)
I absolutely love Ninty, and I always will. But any true fan has to be disappointed with them. What was the last good Wii game to come out? And when was that? Like a year and a half ago? Worse still, they had 3 potentially great games made and ready to ship (Xenoblade, the Last Story, and Pandora's Tower) ... but then chose not to bring them to the US. Like... What are you thinking? And how many games did they release that they put like zero effort into? Wii Music? Animal Crossing? Mario Tennis Wii Controls? Are you kidding me? Listen, I love the two Mario Galaxy games, they are easily in my top 5 all time. And that's what disappoints me. Nintendo has the potential to create great games, but chooses to put half effort into them. No, it's not all about the graphics. But AC is the exact same game I played for the DS! I'm still waiting for a new F-Zero game, a new Star Fox game, and that Pikmin 3 game which we've been talking about for close to 5 years now. And finally, what happened to the Virtual Console? There are still a handful of superb games that they could release, but haven't. Some of them may be hard to actually release (Seiken Densetsu 3, for example) in the US but others are so painfully obvious it hurts me! Mario World 2? Mega Man X2, X3, and 7? Donkey Kong 64? Underachieving is the worst infraction, if you ask me.

The 3DS has the potential to rebound, if you ask me. I may well buy it simply for Mario Land 3DS alone. But again, where are the games? Where are all of the RPGs which powered the DS? Why isn't the US getting the white 3DS?

I hope Nintendo can get its stuff together and soon. I really do. I love the company, can't wait to play through Skyward Sword, and look forward to their response to this humbling.

Ubisoft: From Dust PC will not require constant internet connection

Aug 5th 2011 8:59AM (Joystiq)
Can someone enlighten me as to why always-on DRM is so bad? Does it slow down gameplay? Does it make it near impossible to play with a bad connection? Because in my eyes, requiring an always-on internet connection is like requiring gamers to have a mouse (the peripheral, not the animal). Everyone has one; what's the the big deal?

I actually bought a game on Origin the other day (someone was complaining about it), and I have no issues with it. So I have to log in every time I play. It takes me two seconds to type my password and click "Login." Simple. Painless.

Dragon Quest IX sells 2.3 million copies in two days

Jul 13th 2009 4:12PM (Joystiq)
Yeah, Dragon Quest is really special to me. It's old school and at times, unforgiving, and that's what I love about it. I recently played through Dragon Quest V for the first time, and honestly, it's one of my absolute favorite games of all time. It had a simple overall plot, addicting gameplay (with monsters joining your party) and extremely memorable characters and events. I've played through so many games in my lifetime, and DQV is one of the best. I'm excited to play DQIX as a result.

Now, anyone know what happened DQVI for the DS?

Banjo-Kazooie XBLA remake dated for Nov 26, sequel in 2009 [update]

"It is nintendos fault. You havent been paying attention...

So yeah, pretty much all nintendos fault."

Source?

Not saying I don't believe you, because it does seem plausible, but I haven't heard anything like this and I usually keep up with news like this.
