The Political Game: Dangerous times for gamers

May 4th 2007 1:52PM (Joystiq)
I bet you, that because of this, Paul will get hired as a mapper for a game. All of this publicity gets his name and skills out there. I sure hope he gets that chance, he deserves it.

Images of the Clements High student's "terroristic" maps

I bet you that nothing would have happened if the map wasn't made for a First Person Shooter. If it were made for some other sort of less-violent genre, or perhaps just a lower profile FPS, no one would have freaked. The officials probabally heard "Counter-Strike" and started flipping out.

Thank you sensationalistic media and your coverage of the VT shootings.

Joyswag: Free 1-year subscription to Games for Windows magazine

Feb 27th 2007 1:43PM (Joystiq)
Thanks for the free Mag :) I'm still with the free EGM subscription I got a while back, I believe I heard about it on here.

Nice that this is free, but in my oppinion, magazines should be free anyways. This is considdering that around 50%+/- of magazine content are advertisements. :P

Joystiq White Friday giveaway: Lost Planet codes [update 1]

Nov 24th 2006 3:31PM (Joystiq)
Well, I was stuck working in the guard shack for the Toys "R" Us warehouse out here in New Jersey, so I didn't get to go to dinner. Thankfully, my girl friend saved my life by delivering me a plate of turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes smothered in gravey. She got this by going to a friend's thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately, she forgot to give me an eating utensil.

Blizz bulks up beta build Blood Elves

To make everyone happy, they should give some more character customization options. My idea: 4 different body types. Skinny, Average, Muscular, and Obese (I know some people want a fat undead guy :P), then give at least 3 different height types for each, just to vary it up a bit. I'm sure they could work something like this into the game. Then again, I'm still waiting for armor dyes...

Engadget & Joystiq's live coverage of Nintendo's Wii E3 event

the "pausing" when you shoot in Red Steel is actually one of the powers your character has. Sort of like in F.E.A.R. where you can slow down time, you can toggle a "freeze time" effect to do some real damage, or to go the peaceful way out and shoot the guns out of their hands. Doing so will reward the player. Normally, there is no pause in the shooting gameplay.

Anatomy of shame: Dual Shake vs. Wiimote

May 9th 2006 9:41AM (Joystiq)
Ehh, I don't see what the big deal is. The two controllers (Wii and PS3) are actually quite different in function. Tilting (PS3) is not the same as full range motion and position detection (Wii). Well, the nunchuck addon does have tilting tech in it as well, from what I've read.

In a way, I was kind of hoping that the PS3 controller would respond better. I'm tired of analog controllers for FPSers, and I don't want to buy a whole new computer just to play Unreal Tournament 2k7.

My personal oppinion is that this ps3 tilt gimmic won't really take off. Sony would be shooting themselves in the foot essentially. Spending all of this "r&d" time to make that abomination of a controller that once was, then scrapping it to go back to the last generation design and throwing in some underused and undeveloped tech from Microsoft's PC controllers, and then throwing out the rumble. This all seems rather last minute. The tilt tech is a another waste for Sony. No one will notice it, and no one will care.

PS, the first controller to use ANALOG TRIGGERS was the Saturn's analog controller (Yay NiGHTS!). After that, the Dreamcast controller used it.
