Before you guys compare the price between US and EU/UK, pleae make sure that you understand the the US price will need to add sales tax onto it (usually 6 - 8%, depending on the state you are living in) and in EU/UK the price is inclusive of sales tax (around 15-20%). So the net price (before sales tax) is very close between EU and US, while UK is about 5 gbp higher.
If you want to blame for the high price in EU/UK, blame your own people in electing the high taxation welfare state mentality government, not nintendo.
The thinking of "I can do whatever I want with the energy/resource because I paid for it" is extremely dangerous and is the reason behind global warming. Our planet is deteriorating everyday and if we keep generation CO2 every person will suffer and the poorest people like those living in Aferica will suffer the most. Our habit has to be changed. As energy use is necessary, why can't we use it a little bit more efficiently without a hugh inconvenience (i.e., Power off means not using power at all, using energy saving lightbulb, or driving car with a smaller enginee). If we don't change our behavior, one day we will be forced to changed and the degree or change will be much bigger (i.e., no personal car use, no running water except street pipe)...
Can anyone tell me whether the $600 version of PS3 can be plugged into a HDMI-less TV (SD or HD)? If it is not then most people will be forced to buy the crippled $500 version and even worse, when those people upgrade to a HDMI enabled TV they still can't use the HDMI connection (thus putting the right to display true HD content of the blu-ray movies at the mercy of the studios)

And wonder why no one has raised the question of connecting the $600 PS3 to a HDMI-less TV (SD or HD)? Without HDMI enabled TV many people will be forced to buy the crippled $500 version.
