DS Daily: How much do graphics matter?

Jan 24th 2007 11:16AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Hmmmm, tricky one this. If the game is truly brilliant, graphics don't matter at all - I STILL play the original Tetris and it's as good as it ever wars. Advance Wars is another example.

You shouldn't compare graphics by loooking back - Goldeneye looked great back in the day, but it is quite clunky if you look at it now. However, Super Smash Bros (2001??) still looks great. I don't really know what my point is ...

Prince of Persia's Wii Waggle-Tech Demonstrated

Jan 24th 2007 10:50AM (Joystiq)
I love how people call the Wii 'shit' and 'gimmicky' when it's not even been on sale for 2 months.

Even so, I've had more fun on mine in the past 7 weeks than I've had with any other console.

If you don't like the Wii, then don't fucking buy it, just stop telling me it's shit because I DON'T AGREE.

Wii's Wario wary of widescreen

Jan 16th 2007 11:53AM (Joystiq)
I have a widescreen TV and purchased Wario Ware last week. I have since played it for about 6 hours and until I read this blog, I had no idea it wasn't 16:9.

Wonder why that is? Oh yeah, beacause I've been enjoying the game on my own and with my friends oppose to analysing every technical issue.

All I can assume is that most of you lot are very sad, lonely people. Just fucking play games - if you don't like them DON'T BUY THEM.

Criterion's Alex Ward chats up Wii and DS

Please, please could everyone stop saying: "I/we could care less ..." because it's WRONG!

The correct saying is: "I/we COULDN'T care less" i.e. you care so little for the object/subject that you couldn't physically care any less about it.

Sorry, but I just had to say something.

NPD October: DS leading the upsurge in gaming

Nov 13th 2006 12:31PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Good point Fox.

Let's just hope that the gameplay (DS) vs graphics (PSP) war turns out the same in the home console market.

It's been said before, but the least graphically superior console is always the most popular. What makes me laugh is that when you criticise the PS2 for having inferior graphics, fanboys will always say: "Yeah, but it has the more choice of games."

Now that the PS3 has the 'best' graphics, they'll suddenly be shouting about how wonderful the graphics are, even if the games are poor.

The console wars are very odd aren't they?!

Factor 5 scoffs at the Wii, fanboys shed one tear

Oct 24th 2006 12:25PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Everyone is saying that the Wii's graphics aren't going to be very good, but has anyone actually played on it yet? I have played a lot of X-Box 360 on an SDTV and to be honest, it looked pretty average.

Also, graphics are more than just about the number of pixels. Art style is massively important - I played LOZ: Wind Waker recently for the first time in years and it still looks fantastic because of the art style, use of colours and imagination.

I don't want all my games to look like real life - I play games to escape reality and immerse myself in a fantasy world. Give me Mario Kart over Gran Turismo ANY DAY.

DS dominates Japanese game sales charts

@40

I genuinely hope you are right, but I suspect that the PS3 will still be massively successful. I think Nintendo really needs to shed its childish image - I personally don't assume that cartoony graphics = childish game, but you'd be surprised how many narrow minded people there are out there. I know many people who won't even touch a Mario game because of the way it is presented.

The DS is doing well at destroying this myth, but I got my white DS Lite out at work last week and a rather overweight PSP owner remarked: "The DS - isn't that for children?"

THAT'S what Nintendo needs to address with the Wii.

DS dominates Japanese game sales charts

Going back to post no.26 - I agree completely with James. I live in London and every time I go into GAME, there is almost always a 10-14 year old boy buying a PSP with his mum. However, the DS stand usually attracts girls, kids, adults and people like me who have grown up with Nintendo.

Now, I'm not saying that this is the case for the whole country, but it is a trend that I see in every games shop I've been into for the past 6 months.

I've never seen this amount of interest in Nintendo is England before - the DS really has worked wonders.

Engadget & Joystiq's live coverage of Nintendo's Wii E3 event

It's morons on this website that give gaming a bad name and contributes to the waves of wank sequel after sequel we keep getting. How many more FIFA games do I have to hear about? How many more fucking Gran Turismo games are gonna be churned out? Before you say: "But Nintendo slaps Mario in every game" each Mario/Zelda game is merely using Nintendo's character and environment. Mario Sunshine is very different to Mario 64, for example. How different is FIFA 06 to FIFA 03?

288, what are you basing that on - a crappy live feed on the internet or have you actually played the game on a real 40 inch TV? Imbecile. I'm not saying the games are wonderful and do you want to know why ... BECAUSE I HAVEN'T PLAYED IT? Comment on the game when you've actually played it and before you do that, go to IGN and download the Red Steel trailer. Now tell me the PS2 could do that.
