@Kelmon LOL damn, beat me too it, was my first thought upon seeing it. +1!

iPad trainspotters divine e-book prices, My Documents and more from Oscar night commercial

Damn, just bought a bloody PAPER map of Napa wineries couple weeks back. :P

Motorola's Opus One leaks out, whispers of 'iDEN' and 'Android' overheard

Wonder if they get sued by Opus One vineyards for copyright infringement. :D DAMN good (though pricey wine BTW, can't speak for the phone though yet. ;)

Laptop Cop ups its security arsenal with Skyhook WiFi positioning

Dec 2nd 2008 6:15PM (Engadget)
Apple uses this on their Itouch for WiFi location, sadly it does not work well at all for me even when I manually sent in my router addy and GPS coords to Skyhook and they added it to their database I still often get ID as being 600+ miles from where I am. It also only works from home -- when it does get my location right. Failry major fail far as my own experience has been.

California high-speed train system to link NorCal and SoCal at 220mph

I pay taxes to maintain roads, bridges, traffic control equipment, Caltrans, etc. Yet I do not own a car and ride existing rail frequently. Never-the-less I do not complain about being forced to pay for your driving. This is about increased options for [mass] transit and everyone contributes to everyone else's preferred mode of transportation. This is why I voted in favor of the measure (among other reason such as the creation of over 500,000 jobs).

Kota the Triceratops ships from the land before time to your home

Oct 9th 2008 5:11AM (Engadget)
While fond of plastic leaves, Kota prefers to wash things down with a 6-pack of D-Cell batteries. Your kids will enjoy watching consumed batteries drop from beneth Koto's not-so-energetically wagging tail after being crammed through his mouth ten hours previous!

Reference:

"Battery Requirements
6 D cell batteries which provide about 10 hours of battery life."

Sharkoon's SATA QuickPort Duo gives product category some credence

Hmm wonder if these support SAS drives. I've got 2.5 and 3.5 inch SAS that I currently use internal bays for but wouldn't mind an external option as the bays are god aweful expensive. E-Sata combined with some 15k RPM SAS drives would be amply speedy.

D-Link debuts SharePort-packing DIR-825 dual-band router

Oct 2nd 2008 4:54PM (Engadget)
Excellent, I've got the 4500 and I said roughly the same thing as Zuke as I was reading the article until I reached the uplifting conclusion. :) The documentation basically says you can update your firmware via the USB port if you wanted to but I'd been hoping they would do something like this with it the moment I saw the port on the back of it and now a month after I buy it, here it is. Great article, thanks for the info!

Broadcom dips its chips in Skyhook WiFi positioning tech

Oct 2nd 2008 4:31PM (Engadget)
Based on my personal experience with the Itouch, it's never once worked for me with any of the built-in or 3rd party location based apps and I know at least 2 other people who have the same experience as I. I've even gone so far as to add my router's MAC addy and GSAT locations into SkyNe...hook's database and still no luck at all. I don't see this replacing GPS in its current incarnation at all, but supplementing an existing GPS chip as it is with the Iphone for example would seem a good fit; Especially in dense urban areas where it appears to function best.

Solar Prometeo concept keeps USB power around your neck

Oct 1st 2008 5:57PM (Engadget)
I'd use this at Burning Man though or for some other type of camping trip/remote outdoor activity but hell if I'd be caught dead with it around my neck. :>
