Joyswag: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition codes

May 17th 2011 10:15AM (Joystiq)
I'd take down any that I needed to in order to advance the story.

Gameloft cares not for recessions, sales up in Q1

Apr 29th 2009 12:43PM (Joystiq)
I never really paid attention to Gameloft until I started getting heavily into the iPhone. Now they are one of my favorite developers, thanks to products like Let's Golf and Hero of Sparta, plus the Assassin's Creed port, which is pretty decent.

They just need to get working on a PoP:Fallen King port for iPhone (or, even better, make an original PoP game) and I'll love them forever.

GDC 2009: Another new game announcement from BioWare this year?

Personally, I'm hoping they'll announce some stuff from their handheld division. An RPG for the DS or iPhone would be sweet.

GDC 2009: World of Goo dev team says there's no need for DRM

Mar 24th 2009 10:32AM (Big Download)
I'd have to say that some form of DRM would be beneficial to twarting casual piracy. The use of rootkits and other draconian measures should be avoided, but a simple one-time validity check with the server (like what Evochron Legends does) isn't too intrusive. A developer could also do something similar to what Rise of Legends does and not have updates available via the web, but only downloadable via an in-game patcher. Neither of these would prevent piracy, but they would certainly make the casual pirate think twice about pirating a game, while not inconveniencing legitimate players too much.

PC H.A.W.X. retail release delayed; system requirements revealed

Mar 4th 2009 10:14PM (Big Download)
I downloaded the demo and was pleasantly surprised to find that the game ran really well (with reduced settings, obviously) on my laptop. Not only that, but it's a pretty fun and amazing arcade flight-action game as well.

I hope it does really well, because I would love to see the same control system/interface used for a space flight-action game.

I would love to win this, so I have something to do in between sessions of being yelled at by drill sergeants.

The Joystiq Free Game Club: Psychonauts

Jul 28th 2008 8:35PM (Joystiq)
I think I may be only person in the gaming world who hated Psychonauts with a passion. I skipped it over because everything I heard about it didn't appeal to me, but then I relented under the overwhelming hype post-release.

I found the product to be well-written and funny, but the gameplay elements were horrible. That lungfish sequence under the water was the most frustrating gaming experience I've ever had, and some of the other platforming was similarly aggravating thanks to loose controls and a poor camera. I wanted to complete the game, but as hard as I tried to love it, Psychonauts was just too poorly implemented to keep me interested.

Get your ecosystem on with Sim Animals

Jul 11th 2008 5:53PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
This sounds like Viva Pinata, but with real animals instead, which is EXACTLY what I've been craving ever since VP was released. Gonna have to keep a close eye on this one.

Civilization Revolution comes with a mini-poster surprise

Jul 11th 2008 9:18AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
This is fantastic. The 360 version has the same reversible cover, and I love it so much more than the normal one. I'm going to switch it up right now.

Civ Rev is a fantastic game, by the way. The DS version seems to be exactly the same as the 360 one in terms of gameplay, but with scaled down graphics. Still, I prefer the DS because it's portable, and the 2D graphic style is actually a lot more appealing than the 360's 3D for some reason.

DS Daily: Viva Remakes

Jul 11th 2008 9:13AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'm a little less exuberant about VP:PP's potential success. I loved Viva Pinata on the 360, and it's a great fit for the DS, but I can't shake the feeling that the market will pretty much ignore it. I think the idea of rearing candy-filled pinatas might be a bit too much for people to wrap their heads around and accept.
