DS Daily: That's just low

Jun 29th 2008 11:03AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I've played tons of poorly rated games and loved them, so I tend to ignore the scores. I usually just rely on my instinct in terms of what interests me, my past experiences with other games from the same developer, and what the buzz is on the blogs/message boards.

A high score can pique my curiosity for games I'm not interested in (Metal Gear Solid 4, for example -- I wouldn't have played it if it weren't for the incredibly high scores it was receiving), but a low score won't deter me from picking a game otherwise.

DS Daily: I spy with my little eye ...

Jun 28th 2008 1:17PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
The only people I've ever seen play a DS in public are my neighbour's kids, and they only do that in their backyard. I've never tried to play with them because that would just be weird.

Prince of Persia: The Fallen franchise

Jun 26th 2008 6:13PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
When I first saw the Prince concept art, I thought it was something someone found on DeviantArt. I was completely taken aback.

But, the actual in-game screenshot looks very clear and easy to read, which is especially important when dealing with the DS's tiny screen. So, maybe this new art style is a good thing in the long run. And if the gameplay measures up, then all the better.

DS Daily: What's your favorite Nintendo handheld?

Jun 15th 2008 10:49AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'd definitely have to go with the Gameboy Micro. I know everybody hated it, but I loved having such a tiny, discrete gaming system with me.

Let's talk about those Hummingbird ads ...

Jun 5th 2008 9:11AM (Joystiq)
The main reason I hate these ads is because they're video, and I don't appreciate having unsolicited video forced down my tube, wasting my monthly bandwidth allowance. And, actually, I've stopped coming to Joystiq as much as I used to because of them.

Plug 'n play: tablets work well with PS3

Jun 4th 2008 10:57AM (Joystiq Playstation)
I agree. It would be pretty wicked if Sony, or someone, picked this up and ran with it, even if it were just unofficial integration into certain titles. Imagine if LittleBigPlanet had the ability to use a tablet to actually draw your own textures right into the game. That would take the customization aspects of the game to a whole new level.

List of potentially de-listed Arcade titles

It's sad to see Arkadian Warriors on the list. That game was such an underrated gem.

DS Daily: Forced stylus

Apr 27th 2008 2:15PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Custom Robo Arena required you to tap the touch screen to activate "Soul Boost" during battle, which was really unnecessary because the [Y] button had absolutely nothing assigned to it. It didn't hamper the game experience much, but it sure was annoying.

Viva Pinata lives, gets subtitle

Apr 20th 2008 12:06AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I loved Viva Pinata -- it's a great eco-system sim -- but I agree with you. They should take the hint and let the franchise die. Then replace it with a similar game that has more "grown up" graphics.

Xbox Originals to add Splinter Cell and Metal Arms

Apr 15th 2008 2:40PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Finally, Metal Arms! I've been waiting a long time for that to come to Originals. I wonder if they'll have some free themes/gamer pics to go along with it.
