May 11th 2006 2:33PM (Joystiq)The games (at least in Nintendo's mind) should be rated on the FUN FACTOR and nothing else. If you are having fun playing the game then graphics shouldn't matter that much.
Personally I don't think the Wii will be a stand alone system. It will be a complimetary one. So if you are sick of playing Wii Madden then you can go to the PS3/360 versions.
Every thing is a gimmick. Arcades are a great example of this. Games like Gundam, Safari, Daytona all have "non traditional" play mechcanics and people will gravitate towards them...while others will feel it's too much.
I am buying a Wii to complement my 360...which should be cheaper than me buying the PS3 (even though I'm buying that too). I'll be able to play both innovative games and graphical powerhouses. It's the best of both worlds.
Poll: Who was the key(note)master?
May 10th 2006 11:39AM (Joystiq)Microsoft's presentation was ok...much more of a press conference with announcements...more like you would do internally within a company. Minor pluses and releasest that would be used to show other divisions of the company where they are headed. This was not bad, but it didn't put on the show that Nintendo did. E3 is a showcase to WOW the industry types...to put on the show and Nintendo took this to heart and delivered.
The Sony conf was not real impressive...but not crap at the same time. They definitely had the most to prove because of their own hype machine. I think most people are hoping about price. Remember back a little that they were predicting the system would be $700...it is at least a hundred less than that. I wasn't really affected by the PS3 price either way. There is no way they will lower the price anymore until they absolutely have to. About 2% of the gaming population has a TV capable of using the PS3 to its highest capability. TVs are just now starting to have HDMI connectors let alone be capable of displaying 1080P. These are useless to most gamers. As for WiFi I don't care about that eiter. You can buy an adapter later on just like is availible for the 360. I'd only get the $600 one if I decide I want the 40GB extra. I get the feeling they added in the wii-mote-esque feature after they lost the law suit as an after thought. If they had known about the negative backlash percieved they wouldn't have done it. Remember though Microsoft had the same kind of feature set the Dual Shake has in their Sidewinder PC controller and abandoned the feature. I belive Sony is fighting an uphill battle...becoming complacent like Nintendo and Sega did around the time of the N64 and Saturn/Dreamcast.
Woo...sorry for the long rant...it just kept coming out.
