For the love of God Microsoft, please release a Zune HD software update.
I love this device in almost every way it works, except when I've been listening for more than 5 minutes and want to wake the screen up, AND IT FREEZES. The finger swipe does not register, nor do any of the buttons.
I press the power buttons a few times, then after 20 seconds, the screen flashes on and off a few times. Finally, I press it once, and I can do that stupid finger swipe to change the volume.
I don't agree with this whole list, but some of it is good. Here are a few things I feel need comment.
Bonjour - Nothing but zeroconf tweaked and relabeled. I can't give Apple credit for this.
Webkit - I'll give Apple credit for this. KHTML was good when they forked it, but they made it quicker and more compliant, and look at today's KHTML (Konqueror), compared to today's Webkit.
Time Machine - The technology, Microsoft has had for years (that's what this was about), though the interface was a fairly new invention.
Unibody Laptops - Definitely a revolutionary product of Apple's work.
Device drivers - Unless you have a Mini or Mac pro and want to use a webcam that's not Apple-labeled.
Rosetta - I really feel this should be more than an honorable mention. Even though apple technically licensed the translative technology, the implementation was perfect and was likely an important aspect for the success of the Intel transition.
Boot Camp - Give me a break, this is far from inventive/difficult.
Safari/iTunes for Windows - Give me a bigger break. These are the worst pieces of software on Windows, Safari on Windows is an absolute disgrace, and iTunes gets worse and more bloated with each version, yet the Mac versions of these programs are both pretty good.
Internet Explorer, while still far behind, is probably the exception to your theory.
IE8 was a great step forward. But I will agree about the rest of them.
FF - Bloated and adding useless features (Awesomebar anyone?) Safari 4 - Cluttered UI with useless features (3d Accelerated Topsites?) Chrome - Chrome 4 quickly looses the performance crown Opera - Not terrible sure about this one
What freaking productivity software? iLife != productivity, iLife is extra "fun" crap. To get a basic text editor on a Mac, I have to pay (assuming I want to avoid the horrid failure that is the OOo Mac port).
The MS Works that comes free with every Dell is more useful.

Feb 6th 2010 1:28PM (TUAW.com)Not really. Back in the days where I was in the hackintosh scene, it's relatively easy to fake that using system.kext and smbios.kext.
Zune 4.2 update released, what's new?
Jan 26th 2010 4:37PM (Engadget)I have the opposite problem. The screen lights up but the touch does not work.

Dec 31st 2009 1:05AM (TUAW.com)Xp went 64-bit in 2004, I'll agree, that wasn't widely accepted.
Vista came in full 64-bit flavors since 2007. That was WIDELY used. And what about Linux, which has been 64-bit on SPARC and Alpha for YEARS.
Get a clue.
