PS2 games going digital in 'Only on PlayStation Network' campaign

Oct 3rd 2011 5:14PM (Joystiq)
If the downloadable PS2 games support up-scaling to 2X native and MLAA like the open source emulators do, I'll gladly pay. I don't require trophy support, but they have to at least match what the free emulators already provide to be worth more than a $2 price.

Report: Jak and Daxter HD spotted on retail site

Oct 3rd 2011 5:12PM (Joystiq)
I hope that Naughty Dog is involved with the "remastering". So many of these re-releases would greatly benefit from texture and audio re-encodes from the original sources. Thus far, the audio in the Prince of Persia, Sly Cooper, and Ico HD collections has been the biggest disappointment.

Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster demo available now

ppplllllease bring this to PS3 Move! There's a few great options for Move games for small children and their parents (EyePet, Pooyoos, etc) , but there needs to be more. We're all cool with a PSN release, and we know Double Fine can do it!

All Back to the Future episodes updated on iPad, on sale

Sep 27th 2011 5:13PM (Joystiq)
has the PS3 version been patched also? the story was great, as was the character designs. the environmental graphics and character animation were literally the worst they have ever been in a TellTale game, and was really disappointing.

(and heaven forbid if you tried the german language option -- it was unintelligible due to quality issues and many of the samples had a high-pitched whine in them!)

Jeff Minter's first platformer 'GoatUp' hits iOS

I really liked Space Giraffe, and their other iOS offerings are pretty spiffy as well. It would be awesome to see these on PSN, even as a mini.

LucasArts hiring for FPS, aerial combat, action/adventure games

Three words: Grim Fandango HD.

Three more words: Full Throttle HD.

but I'd settle for these four words: Curse of Monkey Island: Special Edition.

Oddworld Stranger's Wrath HD trailer: everyone's a critter

I agree with everyone else -- this one one of the best last-gen games, period. It obviously influenced BioShock, one of my favorite current-gen games.

It's great to show companies like Sony and Ubisoft that these HD "remasters" can be done to look and sound great with a decently focused team. The HD Collections for Sly Cooper and Prince of Persia were disappointing visually and aurally, to say the least. (When people can't be bothered to even re-encode any of the audio or textures from the original assets, I can't be bothered to pay money.)

Day one purchase for me :)

Take that! First Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright screens released

Sep 15th 2011 5:55PM (Joystiq)
For goodness' sake, when are we finally going to get Professor Layton on PS3? It would be awesome to see the drawing/animation style in 1080p!

Grease coming to Kinect and Move

I'm only interested if it is able to give specific feedback about what you did "wrong". These games (and most exercise ones) are insanely frustrating for most people I know because it'll tell you that you didn't match the movement, but not give you any *specific* remediation advice.

These kinds of games also need a practice mode like Rock Band 3 has, where the song and the on-screen dancer is slowed down.

The alternative is that their tracking is so loose that even a dead person can win. In that case, there's no value-add to the game beyond dancing and singing while the bluray is playing.

Super Monkey Ball rolling to Vita

Sep 12th 2011 5:16PM (Joystiq)
Super Monkey Ball DX was one of our favorite games on the original Xbox. pretty great graphics, really fun local multiplayer. I'm disappointed we still haven't gotten an equivelant on PS3, but I'll take a Vita version if they really take the opportunity to deliver on the graphics and sound side of things.
