For Sony, everything old is new again

Jun 26th 2006 1:07PM (Joystiq)
I agree.

Joystiq, you're just trolling here by saying that for $500 we should get "more than this" from a controller. We all know why Sony is pricing the PS3 as high as it is.

Japanese hardware sales, 12 June - 18 June: Phat's back

Jun 23rd 2006 4:33PM (Joystiq)
@GSI

"As for the PSP doing well? Somehow I don't think 141k vs. 24k is 'well.'"

Comparitively, perhaps not. But the PSP is the secondest most popular video game system in Japan, and that's something that some companies (um, Microsoft) could only dream of.

I also think when you look at DS sales, while its no at all unfair to compare them to PSP sales, Nintendo is successfully getting people to buy the DS who would never even consider buying a PSP. That is the "charm" if you will, of the new Nintendo. They're creating new consumers for themselves. The Wii (presumably) and DS's domination of the sales charts it's not because its the choice of "gamers" its because its the choice of non-gamers.

New TiVoToGo automates PSP support; low-res still

Jun 23rd 2006 3:44PM (Joystiq)
I don't think the resolution downgrade is much of an issue at all. We're getting 240 lines of vertical resolution as opposed to 272. That's not much of an issue.

PlayStation 3 first to support HDMI 1.3

Jun 23rd 2006 2:12PM (Joystiq)
@ SuicideNinja
"HDMI is nice, but isn't much past the visual quality of DVI."

All HDMI is in its most basic form is DVI video with built in optical audio.

@EVERYONE

It amazing that Sony can support something as forward thinking as HDMI 1.3 and get -criticized- for it in the Joystiq comments. If Sony doubled the RAM in the PS3 or upgraded the CPU, I'm sure you guys would find some way to shit on Sony over that too. :)

Top 10 games? Bah! Who're the top 10 gamers?

Jun 21st 2006 8:08PM (Joystiq)
I have to be in the top 10 in Marvel v. Capcom 2, Joust, and Winning Eleven Soccer. Just to let you know. :)

Metareview - Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel

Jun 21st 2006 6:42PM (Joystiq)
Looking at the way its editted, and put together... I think it's far more proper to think of it as uniquely animated Metal Gear Solid movie of sorts. It's far more than what the term "graphic novel" implies.

Halo 2 team signs million-dollar deal

"or big name players starting to be mentioned in the same breath as today's other sports stars."

That's funny. Really funny. Are you retarded?

Readers vote on top 10 NES games

Jun 18th 2006 2:36PM (Joystiq)
Duck Hunt? What?

I definitely think Mega Man 3 should be on there, if not for its theme music alone.

Contra
Ninja Gaiden 2
River City Ransom
Megan Man 3
Super Mario 1-2-3
River City Ransom

There was another 4 person fighting game developed by Technos based on RCR characters, it was Japan only, but's a top 10 game.

I don't have a definitely top 10, but Duck Hunt makes me cringe.

Japanese hardware sales, 5 June - 11 June: outnumbered

Jun 16th 2006 7:56PM (Joystiq)
It think it's too bad that the 360 isn't selling in Japan. For all the PS3 hating in North America, I'm wondering if 360 numbers have already spiked a bit, or if it's just all talk... because in Japan they've been hearing the same as we have and it hasn't helped 360 sales. I know that no one there likes Xbox 360, but if they were truly upset by Sony, you think we'd see at least some brand defection.

IGN Dreamcast: Week 2 [update 1]

Jun 16th 2006 6:53PM (Joystiq)
I love the Dreamcast. With a VGA-out cable, the DC has new found life in progressive scan on my hdtv.

I'm not sure that there is a better racing game then Daytona USA for the Dreamcast. The gear shifting on it works incredibly well.

I have even bought a couple of Dreamcast shirts off of eBay :)
