Yes, because clearly swords that fill almost an entire 180 degree arc and solid snake style exclamation points over the enemies heads are intended to be taken totally seriously.
Having seen it in motion, I now expect a game poking a ton of fun at multiple titans of the industry.
They had by far the largest amount of firepower available, but the hardest time applying it. Unless they've radically changed the game in AvP2 (which I hope not) if you caught an alien out in the open or at distance, they melted in literally 1-2 seconds.
Then again you never saw the good aliens before you had your brain sucked out the back of your skull (marine radar only worked on movement and only in the front 180 degree arc, so they'd freeze up on the ceiling somewhere when you looked near them and then vanish)
I have yet to get the pulse pounding tension of the "ping....ping....ping..." of the marine radar in another game. The alien is sneaky fun, and the predator was all about methodical movement and trap setting (if you didn't have the right view mode on for the right enemy you where screwed two ways to Sunday.) But nothing really beat the "ohcrapohcrap... ALIEN!" *blam blam* of the marine, nor the feeling of staving off attackers who really felt more evolved then you with your really big gun.
Here's the thing. He developed the first MUD and a bunch of SMS mobile phone games. Oh and one unnamed N-Gage game (developing for that thing lowers your status as a good consultant in my eyes.) Beyond that he's got nothing attached to his name as far as development goes.
He's worked at Essex University since 2002. With "Independent Consultant" tacked on since 2000.
He's one of the "grandfathers of MMOs" and I respect him for that. But gaming moves fast, and from what I can find about his experiences he's not been keeping up.
