Apple iPhone: a threat to portable consoles?

Jan 10th 2007 11:25PM (Joystiq)
Cheers AssemblyLineHuman - i was wondering about that. Still, it's not enough input for most games. Though i could see something like Sam n Max or Day of the Tentacle on there.

Apple iPhone: a threat to portable consoles?

Jan 10th 2007 10:47PM (Joystiq)
Everybody is missing a VERY BIG POINT:

With only one button, and a touchscreen that can only recognize one point at a time (i assume)... What the hell kind of crappy games will you be able to play on it with basically only two (2) input points at a time?

-The DS has 8 buttons for input including start/select) plus the D-pad, the touchscreen which can recognize one point at a time, and a microphone. A total of 11 input points, utilizing upwards of 5 at the same time.

-The PSP has 9 buttons for input including start/select/home, plus the D-pad, and the analog pad. A total of 11 points as well, also utilizing upwards of 5 at the same time.

-The iPHONE has 2, that's right 2 input points, with the remote possibility of 3 if they work on the touchscreen recognition. I can think of only a few games that use so few points: Point blank, Elite beat agents, Koropirina with a bit of imagination, Meteos, Brain Age and such. That means no good FPS, or fighting games, or decent racing games, or sport games with any depth, or RPG with any depth. It is limited through lack of input.

It looks more like X-Men Legends. Maybe they should have clled it Marvel Legends instead.

Wii impressions: Monkey Ball (minigames)

May 11th 2006 10:45PM (Joystiq)
You should review all games like this.

eg. God of War 2: You just go around killing things, just like any other game, honestly, it's just button mashing. boring

eg. Gears of War: Just another killing game with nothing but button mashing. So simplistic and unoriginal.

HONESTLY! These are the most skewed reviews i have read for ANY system EVER. At least Joystiq is reviewing 360/ps3 games without resorting to "why bother" every time (tell it like it is #1)

How about "We *only* played three out of the 50 (!!!) mini games in SMB" (dat's a lotta games)
What about how it controlled? Was it fluid? Did the framerate drop at all? Was there any sensitivity problems with the Wiimote? Do you know what some of the other games might be?

Wii impressions: Virtual Console

I haven't seen a bias for Nintendo on any other sites. ANY. It's not everyone here at Joystiq, but there are a few that really seem to be unfairly reviewing it. Can the honest people at Joystiq please have a word with the offenders. Thankyou.

Wii impressions: Elebits

Hey - remember that there is TWENTY SEVEN playable games. So don't shoot the messenger just because the highest amount of games are on the Wii. Joystiq is a gaming site, and it's job is to tell us about ALL games - and they do their job well.

For all those who aren't impresed by the Wii - don't worry, Nintendo will no doubt go back into hibernation mode after e3. Also remember that all the Nintendo fans have had NO NEWS of games until now, whereas Xbox and Ps3 have been freely giving pix/videos for a while.

Let us have our fix
