Battlefield 3's rendering architect details his dream specs for the next generation of consoles

Mar 10th 2012 10:27PM (Joystiq)
Graphics and processing power aside, I'll still be a hardcore PC gamers *unless* there's some standardized alternative control scheme for said console (and when I say alternative I mean a mouse with some form of keyboard controller)

Feature: Steam on the Mac stumbles out of the gate

So you make two points: no demos (big deal), and your outdated hardware can't run the newer games. I'd hardly call that stumbling...

Splinter Cell dev defends Ubisoft's 'always on' DRM

Protecting your games is fine and all, but what Ubi is doing isn't working at all. Not only is it pissing off and pretty much breaking their own game, the protection itself has already been circumvented by pirates so that the people they are trying to stop from playing are the only ones that can!

Nvidia announces GTX 470 and 480 cards

Mar 26th 2010 10:36PM (Joystiq)
I like how when you got to the end of the list of the only games the PS3 has worth playing you put "etc ... etc ..." like there are more... there aren't!

Dell introduces $339 G2410H 24-inch 1080p LCD monitor, we go hands-on

I'll bitch about *both* the TN panel and 1920x1080 resolution!

NVIDIA GTX 480 makes benchmarking debut, matches ATI HD 5870 performance (video)

@Akhen The point is, from a consumer perspective, it shouldn't matter at all what technology hardware is made with (or how many GPUs there are, in this case). If it's the same price, then that's where you choose the products to make your comparisons.

If I offered you a brand new 4 cylinder car for, say, $500 you'd probably take it. But if there was a brand new 8 cylinder car sitting next to it that someone else was offering for the same $500 (that was just as fuel efficient and so on as the 4 cylinder), which would you choose? Does it matter that the 8 cylinder car is faster only because it has more power due to it having twice as many cylinders? Or is the comparison between the two cars not valid, therefore you shouldn't consider either over the other?

No mention of the 5970... I guess because it's dual-GPU NVIDIA guys didn't think it was a fair comparison.

Architecture doesn't matter when you're buying these things, the only comparison is price. This whole argument that comparing a single GPU based card to a dual-GPU card isn't "fair" is a load of crap. If both cost $650, which would you buy? Which would you tell your readers to buy? That's why they need to be compared with each other!

AnandTech goes behind the scenes of ATI's RV870 / Evergreen GPU development

@YpoCaramel certainly not an RV870 and never have I seen a desktop GPU used in a console, but I see your point.

Wait... but PC gaming is dying isn't it? Why do we need such things anymore!

Modern Warfare 2 PC won't support dedicated servers

Boycotting or refusing to play the game won't do anything, and petitions will do even less. Even if any of that worked and the sales of MW2 were abysmal Activision would blame it on pirates and the PC dying as a gaming platform, then never release anything again for us. They already heavily favor the consoles as their platform of choice (particularily the 360) so it wouldn't take much to tip them over that edge.

What you need to do is send a different kind of message... stop posting on their forums about it. Stop hyping it everywhere. Flood their forums with some hype about some other games. There are some good ones in the Battlefield series coming, and Dice has already said that they'd never dick over PC gamers like IW is doing. Talk about that instead while blissfully ignoring MW2. If you want to piss them off and get your message across, that's how you do it. Really cram it down their throats, fill their forums with Battlefield 3 talk.
