Win a Kojima-signed copy of MGS4!

Jun 18th 2008 11:42AM (Joystiq Playstation)
How you had to kill The Boss at the end of MGS3. Not because I enjoyed it, but because of how painful it was to actually press that button and 'kill' a digital character. It was at that point that I really felt that games had gotten to the point where they can be just as, if not more, powerful and effective as a storytelling medium as movies, books or anything else. It was also the moment that I realized Kojima should be directing films as well as video games, because he knows how to elicit powerful emotions from his audience.

Metal Gear retrospective: MGS 3

Jun 3rd 2008 2:13PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Not really sure how you can compare a 3+ year old PS2 title to some of the stuff thats on the market now. It was late generation PS2 and did look excellent for the time, and its one of the last games to go for 'realism' and actually include colors other than brown in its design palate.

Rock Band coming to Wii on June 22nd [update 2]

Mar 24th 2008 3:44PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Joystiq's post linked to the Rock Band forums, where a Harmonix Developer said this title will be 'closer to the PS2 experience'. Guess that means all the online stuff (world tour, DLC, etc.) will be cut right out. Which is sad, as I was hopeful for at least DLC on the Wii version. I can live with the dumbed down graphics, but without the DLC, I don't see any point in getting this; drums is a hell of a lot of fun, but there just aren't enough songs to justify the purchase in my mind.

DS Fanboy Review: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney

Ack, I spent all that time writing something up and I spell the reviewer's name wrong. My bad Candace.

DS Fanboy Review: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney

Feb 28th 2008 4:43PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Cadence-

Great review, but just one quick point. You mentioned the abilities Ema gave Phoenix in the last case of the first game, like the ability to examine the evidence more in depth and some of the forensic stuff, and you said you didn't know why they weren't in the second and third titles. The reason for this is simple; the first 3 Phoenix Wright titles were actually GBA ports, faithfully recreated (with the exception of the last case in the first game, which was created specially for the DS), and thus, they couldn't give players those abilities. However, since this was the first game to be built from the ground up for the DS, they added this all back in. Not trying to be obnoxious, just hoping to clarify things for you.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

DualShock 3 to debut in April for $54.99

Feb 26th 2008 2:11PM (Joystiq)
I actually think that while controller purchases are mind numbingly expensive across the board, I tend to measure value in terms of relative amount of use. So, yeah, it'll cost $55 to buy this (or a hair more to import it), but that cost will be offset by the amount you'd use it. Say, for example, you only have the SIXAXIS that came with the system. If you bought a Dual Shock 3, and used it as your primary controller, then you'd certainly get more value for your dollar than you would out of most games. Heck, there are full blown games that cost the same and don't last as long as a single charge on a controller like the SIXAXIS. Looking at it that way, yeah,it still sucks to shell out the cash, but it almost makes it worth it...almost.

Joyswag: Win a Cobalt Black DS with Advance Wars or Prof. Layton

Feb 14th 2008 3:24PM (Joystiq)
Easy choice for me on both fronts.

Marle from Chrono Trigger. She's sweet, a firecraker and a deeply caring person. Plus, she's royalty, so you'd be set by marrying her. And Prof. Layton for my game choice. I'm a fan of the Advance Wars series, but I'm REALLY curious to see Prof. Layton. I love puzzles, especially well executed game puzzles.

Wii Warm Up: No More Copies

Jan 24th 2008 9:55AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I didn't pre-order and the Best Buy that I went to had a few copies left on the shelf (I went at 5pm), but the guy walking around the games area said he was very surprised by how well it had been selling. He said he had followed the title, but he didn't think it would sell as fast as it had, and considering the number of copies the store had, he's pretty sure they didn't think it would sell either. Shame too, combat's a blast.

Bargain Brawl: Preorder for $19.82! [update 2]

Jan 11th 2008 10:32AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
It is an awesome deal, but my problem here is the shipping time. I selected overnight shipping (still under $33), but it said it wouldn't arrive until maybe Friday, 2/15...why does Wal-mart need 3 days of processing time in addition to not being able to guarantee overnight shipping? If you don't mind the wait, its a fantastic deal though.

Disney forms Nintendo games studio

Nov 7th 2006 9:57AM (Joystiq)
Todd, his point wasn't that Disney will be making kiddie games(they will). It was that the Wii isn't ONLY a kiddie system. Personally, I think you're right. I mean, games like Necro-nesia and the new Resident Evil clearly don't actually exist; it couldn't just be that A:Disney, a cash cow company, wants to milk its franchises more and B:like every developer under the sun has said, Nintendo's systems are easier to design for. No, its gotta be the kiddie thing.

For the record: I don't mind fanboy loyalty(it would be hypocritical of me since I'm obviously one), but only when people make arguments that actually involve things like 'logic'.
