'Girl Fight' is pretty much what it sounds like

Feb 14th 2012 9:15AM (Joystiq)
@Regault Let's face it, that Atari brand was ruined well before Infogrames bought it and changed their name. Even if you don't count the video game crash of the 80's, being bought-out by the worst hard drive company in the world (JTS) or Hasbro purchasing it for a paltry $10 million before slinging it through the mud, the mismanagement of the Tramiel family (who had previously done a similar bang-up job at Commodore) more or less doomed the house that Bushnell built. By comparison, Infogrames has done a decent job not tarnishing it further.

Gamers crack AIDS-related protein, science now obsolete

Sep 20th 2011 7:50AM (Joystiq)
And where exactly would gamers be without science and engineering? Oh yeah...

I know it's a joke, firmly tongue-in-cheek, but some of the responses are showing an equally firm inability to realize that.

Spencer: Halo without Master Chief just isn't as 'centered' on what players want

Jul 12th 2011 7:42AM (Joystiq)
This is easily one of the most idiotic statements I've ever read. People new to the series don't know who Chief is. He's not Mario. He's not Sonic. He doesn't have that much licensing outside of the Halo fanbase (not marketed toward young children). Bungie did what they wanted to do, and expanded the Halo mythos a whole lot more by not being solely about Chief (he's a Spartan, not Superman; I liked getting more on other Spartans). This makes me worry a bit about what Microsoft will do with Halo 4 (which should be a misnomer...weren't the Halos all destroyed?).

Tales of Graces not coming to Wii outside of Japan

Jul 5th 2011 7:29AM (Joystiq)
Or maybe this has something to do with NoA hating you (and thinking that North American gamers don't want JRPG's, a distinctively mid-to-late-eighties mindset). No Lost Story. No Xenoblade. Now no Wii version of Tales of Graces (probably the least of the three, but still). It seems with Wii U coming down the pipe, Reggie and company don't want anything to interfere with the success of their few first-party sequels, original content be damned.

Zune hits new low: $100 cash money

Oct 17th 2007 2:29AM (Engadget)
I went with Buy.com. New means something to me, as it UNDER WARRANTY. I can deal with the dookie brown so long as it works and sounds good. I picked up three of them actually, one for me and one for each of my brothers (Christmas shopping is done for them). Pretty damned good deal, and while I don't expect it to replace my iPod, for $99 shipped, it will be a nice backup unit.

If they stay at this price point for a bit longer, I'll probably pick up a few more units for the holiday season.

Revolutionary: Respectable Specs

Jul 26th 2007 9:54AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Nice article, although it makes it sound like the N64 was the first console to use RISC chips (the Atari Jaguar made use of two custom RISC processors, nicknamed "Tom" and "Jerry"). That puts the Jag only a month behind 3DO on the release list, so at the very least, they're co-pioneers.

Netflix "Watch Now" feature offers movie download alternative

If they can implement this on the Wii's internet channel (Opera) then it will become my number one media hub...

Sony continues to play defense over PS3 pricing, HDMI

May 11th 2006 2:13PM (Engadget)
To 76...

Anyone buying the basic version is going to be sorely disappointed when they realize they basically got a neutered kitty. The cost of the machine is due to the BluRay drive, so to cut out features like WiFi and HDMI is just a ruse.

My guess is that Sony, ultimately, will release ONE model of PS3, the deluxe model, but at $499. If they don't, they're basically asking to get a Wiimote thrust into their hindquarters.

Sony continues to play defense over PS3 pricing, HDMI

May 11th 2006 2:09PM (Engadget)
What Sony doesn't get is that, for most consumers, the benefits of BluRay *ARE NOT* a good value. A miniscule amount of people have televisions capable of displaying a picture remotely good enough to take advantage of BluRay over standard DVD HD (something Nintendo realizes), so forcing a price point simply to advance your own format doesn't mean squat. A large number of people will buy, but these are the same folks who pay $1,000 for an XBOX 360 on eBay. The most I'm willing to pay for a console is $400, and the fact is, for most people, $200 is the magic number. Guess who's going to get to that price-point first? Not Sony...
