Apple applies for gaming trademark

Feb 11th 2008 1:53AM (TUAW.com)
I've come to the conclusion that this probably doesn't mean that Apple is going to do anything game related rather it's to prevent someone else from doing it. They are covering themselves with these patents.

Today in Joystiq: January 16, 2008

I'm surprised this was mentioned here at all considering who reads this blog. I'm sure most people here care less about how thin a notebook is and more about its specs. Considering when spore is coming out it might not be able to run it well. You might be able to run Quake Zero on it though.. it certainly can play Q3A engine games good. ;)

If it's Aspyr you can bet that it wont be Cider. They're not too keen on it and feel that their in house porting tools do a better job.

Gaming-specific CrossOver coming soon

Jan 8th 2008 9:28PM (TUAW.com)
"seems to me that if you have the hardware to run Windows games, you have the hardware to run Windows and games at the same time" I wouldn't bet on it. I mean games are some of the most demanding software there is for a computer.

I think software like this is good for those games you know will never ever come to the Mac. Like say, Half-Life 2. Another thing is sometimes when games do come out for the Mac not all the same mods work with the game as they do with the PC version. Like with Doom 3 certain mods like last man standing have to be compiled for the Mac.

Aspyr talked about how they still believe that native ports still have their advantage over a WINE setup (like this and cider)... and that they can still remain competitive. I hope they are right.

The Trailer of the Dead

You don't need to be a siamese freak with 4 hands because these originally where light gun games on rails. On the wii instead of a light gun you have your wiimote controlling the cursor... 1 wiimore per person.

CES 2008: New titles join Games for Windows portfolio

There's too much confusion between GFW and GFW LIVE I see.
GFW doesn't automatically mean LIVE. GFW isn't really competing with Steam as you can get those games on Steam like at least one other has pointed out.

Also Tomb Raider on the PC isn't a new thing all the previous Tomb Raider games have all come out for the PC. If you don't like using Keyboard and Mouse for those games you could always also use a gamepad.

I myself prefer certain controls for certain games.... and for Tomb Raider Anniversery I actually used a gamepad... but for things like FPS and Third Person Shooter games that control like them I use keyboard and mouse.

Also I think the more games the merrier so despite some of these seeming "console centric" I think it's good that they are still coming to the PC.

One last thing I don't think the PC market has been dead nor will it be anytime soon. That's a lie that has been repeated a bit too much.
