Sony CEO Jack Tretton goes blogging

Jun 14th 2007 11:59AM (Joystiq)
Isn't "Spice Must Flow" more of a Eon referance than a Dune referance?

Japan invited to Halo 3 Beta, will anyone RSVP?

Jan 29th 2007 2:55PM (Joystiq)
It would be interesting to know who all received a email invitation to the Beta. I got one, but are they rare or is everybody getting one?

Bloomberg: Sony profit may drop 50% on poor PS3 sales

Nobody even said anything about the Seinfeld referance....that referance is gold Jerry, solid gold.

Sony's system projects a quiet cool (PS3 delight #1)

Nov 15th 2006 5:52PM (Joystiq)
Has anyone taken into account that the PS3 has larger vents, so it's going to run cooler. Also, it isn't trying to cool off 3 chips, like the 360. Oh, and my favorite....the 360 uses a DVD drive that spins at 12x while the PS3 uses a BD drive spining at 2x, which is why 360 loads games faster, unless you decide to let the PS3 dump load data on the HD. And the system cost $200 more, so the least they could do is make it cooler and less audible. Maybe all that should be taken into account before the fanboys get up in arms.

Gears of War credit roll "a hip-hop fart to the face"

Nov 15th 2006 1:59PM (Joystiq)
I think it's kind of funny. I don't think it's supposed to be taken seriously, from the simple fact that it only is Cole's lines that are used. He is very sterotypical, but I love his character. And by the way....this really isn't hip-hop. It's more dance or techno.

Sony criticizes Xbox 360 movie and TV downloads

Nov 7th 2006 1:13PM (Joystiq)
broseph, if this article is a bad example of segregation then so is Sony's original comments. Segregation means: to separate or set apart from others or from the main body or group; isolate. The main body or group are the ones who have the Premium 360 and who are going to have the 60 GB PS3, seems how those are the two SKU's that Sony and Microsoft manufacture more. Atleast Microsoft gives you the option of upgrading everything except the disk drive tray.

The bottom line of this article is to point out how Sony seems to be reaching. They want everybody to believe that the PS3 is the "Second Coming" and that the 360 isn't even in the same league, but when it all comes down to it, they're both more alike, then they are different.

Sony (and its ad agency) need a home run with the PS3

Oct 31st 2006 1:13PM (Joystiq)
Yeah, I agree with Agent. Sony's strength is in their fanbase. People already believe that the PS3 is the Second Coming, they need to stop with the viral marketing and just say "We're the market leader, you know you want one".

Halo movie post-pwned by Microsoft and Jackson

Oct 31st 2006 12:00PM (Joystiq)
You cannot just self-fund a movie just because you have the money. There are things like Actor unions and worker unions to deal with. Square funded a computer generated movie, which is a different animal then a live action movie. Plus, you need a distributor. Even Lucas (who self-funded his movies) needed that. It’s much more complicated then “oh, here…take $200 million and make a movie”. And Jackson probably doesn’t want to direct because he knows that he’s not the right director for this type of movie. That’s what makes a good producer, somebody who knows his limits and can get the right people for the job.

Anyway you put this, it all comes down to the fact that Microsoft wanted a big chunk of the profits and the studios don’t know about giving that much money to an untested director.

Japanese PS3 interest rising (or "this is what happens when you price drop")

Oct 9th 2006 4:11PM (Joystiq)
Um, has anyone talked about the fact that Japan gets a price break, but we still have to pay $499 and $599? Or will Sony PR soon come out and say: American gamers don't mind paying higher prices for their consoles?

Microsoft on video games: "This is a space we believe in" despite losses

Oct 9th 2006 4:03PM (Joystiq)
Jabber, I love Microsoft and I love "M$", I think it's great. It may have started as a internet cliche, but I use it more as a show of respect for the fact that one company can be so large as to have people hate them, simply because they are a large company. It's the ultimate oxymoron.
