no thats not correct

nintendo is known for NOT mailing it in on sequels. if they expect us to wait with giant gaps in releases, then the release itself cant mirror a madden-style yearly release with small changes. you can release strikers '09 and strikers '10 every year and establish expectations on par with madden, wwe, need for speed. instead nintendo holds itself to a different standard, and thats the standard by which these sequels should be judged.

another thing about the "grand list of core games" people bring up that nintendo has released is that almost none of them have been original developments that nintendo usually has as part of their 'long development cycles' for new franchise iterations.

zelda tp - a gamecube game with waggle controls tacked on
super paper mario - a gamecube game with waggle controls tacked on
mario super sluggers - a gamecube game with minor upgrades and waggle control tacked on
animal crossing - a gamecube (really n64) game with wii controls
battlion wars 2/fire emblem/mario strikers - released a year/2 before they would have been 'new play control releases'
mario kart wii - a new game, but rendered almost entirely unplayable with 12 racers and ridiculous rubber band gameplay - aka converting from a core/hardcore experience to a casual experience

super smash bros and super mario galaxy appear to be the only first party games that were developed for the wii in mind. maybe you could say metroid prime 3, but it looks a lot more like a third game in the gamecube series with new wii controls.
