Prinny gets premium DLC in Japan

Feb 1st 2009 10:02AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Meh. I didn't shill out for the (promised) game modes for Super Stardust. I probably won't be shilling out for the Prinny level. I know prices are inflated in Japan compared to in the Americas, but 3 dollars for a level? That'll probably come over as 1.50 or 2.00. Definitely not worth it.

Overall, I'm a large advocate of free DLC. Capcom and Sega both do great jobs with that in regards to Monster Hunter and Phantasy Star Portable. Is there a market for premium DLC? Sure. I would definitely buy a new expanded mission pack for like 5 dollars or something. Charging for such small things is ridiculous though. Especially since PSP games are already too expensive already. At least games are starting to retail at $30 now. They should have done that from the start.

Developer talks about failing business model for PSP dev

Jan 28th 2009 6:13PM (Joystiq Playstation)
This is stupid. Sensationalizing SCEA- and SCEE's spectacular failures in terms of software marketing and volume will lead you to inaccurate conclusions like this. Sony doesn't even necessarily need software support for the PSP anymore. At 42+ million units sold, one of the highest-selling consoles this generation, the PSP has more than payed for itself. Will they need to make up for their inadequacies in terms of universal game support when they roll out the next iteration? Surely, but that's an expected and doable upgrade. Will there be a PSP2? You can safely bet on it. Especially in a slowing economy. What better to entertain yourself with, than an incredibly capable portable multi-media gaming system retailing at a cheaper cost than most consoles, but offering more in terms of depth and content than your standard Nintendo deal? Sony Is in a prime position to reap the rewards of a technologically-oriented culture that will still want its fix while riding out super-harsh economic times.

Joystiq announcement: change is coming

Jan 24th 2009 9:45AM (Joystiq)
Well, looks like it's time for me to stop reading Joystiq blogs. I have no interest in the PS3 and do not want that crap flooding my browser window when I'm looking for PSP news. What an incredibly stupid idea. Whatever. Later.

PSP firmware 5.03 patches GripShift exploit

What are you talking about? Do you have any idea how ignorant you are? Or what homebrew even is? You haven't truly used your PSP until you've used it with CFW and a ton of apps installed. "Self righteous"? How does that even make sense? I'd advise you to read up on things you so willingly and idiotically condemn before you make a fool of yourself in the future. Just some friendly advice.

No Gravity: The Plague of Mind rated by ESRB

I hope (a long shot) that this becomes some sort of an accepting new trend that Sony adopts to help foster a link between the incredibly talented homebrew community and the PSN.

Bah, who am I kidding?

DS Daily: Recommend some homebrew apps

Jan 19th 2009 10:23AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Yes, I decided to take a random jaunt over here to DSFanboy just to see what was happening, and I was incredibly surprised by this article. Instead of shunning the homebrew development scene, a SystemFanboy blog embraces it?

As a dedicated PSPFanboy reader, this makes me sad. Not because I don't support homebrew (I think it's one of the largest untapped resources in gaming), but because Yoon and his other cronies are so uptight and ignorant of the entire movement. Even sadder is that it reflects Sony's entire attitude towards the issue. Complete and willful ignorance of the wants of its End Users.

Not that Nintendo takes any more of a loose stance, but they manage to combine incredible software support with their hardware sales, making the system wildly succesfull despite massive piracy; because yes, while many people (myself included) use the R4 or Cyclo carts for benign or at least non-malignant purposes, the great majority use it for piracy. And still, the system thrives.

Bravo, DSFanboy.

What's in store for PSP in the future? Sony's latest survey may hold some clues

Tell us about the survey, but don't tell us where to find it or anything.

Great reporting, guys.

That's about 10 dollars more than I'd be willing to pay for that.
