Given the difference in how they acquire energy - plants (mostly) photosynthesize, fungi from decay of other organic matter - and the places they tend to grow - sunny and bright vs. dark and dank - fungi creatures are often placed as a sort of "undead" counterpart to plant-people.

If only women could escape all the negative things they face in real life, purely because of their gender, so easily. Surely they have just as much desire and/or right to do so?

(The unfortunate fact, of course, is that these issues follow us into the virtual worlds, because it's still humans creating and playing in them. We bring them with us, inevitably, not unlike the doctrine of Original Sin.)
